Adobe Moves To Subscription Based Payment For Its Creative Suite

Adobe is introducing a subscription model for many of its most popular programs, including Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

Up to now, customers had perpetual access by paying a single fee for Adobe's Creative Suite. From next month, continuing access to the programs, either individually or as a whole, will demand a monthly fee. Standalone versions will still be available but will not be upgraded.

The change was announced at Adobe's annual Max conference, at which it details the latest updates to its products.

Can't tell if this is a smart thing to do or not, time will tell if they continue the service.

Still confused on how the subscriptions work, anyone care to explain what happens if you don't get a subscription and then some time later you decide to get one, do you receive all the enhancements previous?

Bunch Of Screenshots From The 06-07 Era

16 February 2013 - 02:31 AM

Hey all.

After combing one of my old hard drives I found an old folder of RS screenshots I made back in the day. Now as I have little to no use for them I might as well show them to you guys (Please ignore any of my snarky/over enthusiastic comments on the screenshots, I was easily amused back then) .

Us Court To Rule On Mp3 Resales

A US court is to consider a case that could determine whether digital media files can be resold.

One-year-old start-up ReDigi is battling music giant EMI over whether digital music can be retraded after it has been legally purchased.

ReDigi says that its software is designed to comply with existing United States copyright laws. But EMI argues a legal principle which allows consumers to resell purchased material goods does not apply.

A judge at the district court in Manhattan, New York, will hear opening arguments in the case on Friday after EMI sued ReDigi for copyright infringement earlier this year

This is actually rather interesting, we've been able to resell our CD's for a while now so arguably you should be able to do the same with MP3's.

Another case where the copyright law is hilariously out of date.

Demonoid Shut Down

Ukrainian authorities have taken down Demonoid.com, one of the world's largest torrent file-sharing sites.

Investigators from the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs raided the data centre that was hosting the website's servers. Torrents allow users to download music, video and other internet content by downloading small bits of files from others' computers at the same time.

The shutdown is the latest news in a campaign against file-sharing sites. It follows the US's closure of Megaupload, and several European ISPs (internet service providers) being ordered to block access to The Pirate Bay.

Demonoid was listed alongside both of these sites in The Notorious Markets List - a document drawn up by the US government at the end of last year highlighting services that "merit further investigation for possible intellectual property rights infringements". It noted that Demonoid "recently ranked among the top 600 websites in global traffic and the top 300 in US traffic".

Relevant:

So as this is a shut down and not a block I don't see this coming back, like with Megaupload.

Igoogle To Be Removed In 2013

iGoogle will be retired in 16 months, on November 1, 2013. The mobile version will be retired on July 31, 2012.

How did you come to this decision?
We originally launched iGoogle in 2005 before anyone could fully imagine the ways that today's web and mobile apps would put personalized, real-time information at your fingertips. With modern apps that run on platforms like Chrome and Android, the need for something like iGoogle has eroded over time, so we’ll be winding down iGoogle on November 1, 2013, giving you a full 16 months to adjust or easily export your iGoogle data.

I was wondering why it was getting increasingly difficult to find iGoogle from the main page, this answers it.

To be honest I'm going to miss this as it was a time-saver for me, here's hoping I can find a semi-replacement in the apps section since it's clear they want to use those instead.
