I know that this is a little late... but crystalmathlabs does tracking live for you and is very reliable (unlike runetrack that we used to use before)
http://www.crystalma...ompetitions.php

I bet you are trying to win all skill categories to beat us little guys!! Dismissed!!

There is nothing that you can do about it too

Because third party services can be unreliable (RT was reliable until something went wrong) we prefer to have control over the tracker. Besides, the google sheet is live anyways. It just takes a kick to get it started/stopped.

On that note, it appears there's so many things being pulled for tracking they can not all be updated at once. So you may see REF## at times instead of your XP, but it should sort itself out down the road. In any case, competition-wise I manually track everyone's starting & ending XP.

#17109402 Trump Watch / General US Politics

Posted by spoonheb on 31 March 2017 - 10:54 AM

I mean sure, the specifics are far more nuanced than I've laid out, and are in fact very hard to know for sure considering how little we know of Trump's finances: Marco Rubio's claim of a 200 million inheritance is definitely way far off, but so too is Trump's claim of $1 million, which is why most of these analyses use a more moderate estimate of 40 million. Not to mention, we don't even know exactly how much he's worth, because it "changes according to how much he feels he's worth", and indeed most of the "billions" are tied up in the approximate value of his brand: in 2005, Deutche Bank valued his brand as $788 million, not the 3 billion he claimed at the time. But you're missing my larger point, in that I am far less impressed by a billionaire who was born into money - and all the hidden benefits that come with that - than someone who made billions from nothing, like Mark Cuban, Bill Gates, or JK Rowling.

Having the opinion someone who was born into money must do more to be considered successful is perfectly valid and I won't attempt to change your mind 29 pages later.

My point was that quantitatively trump is extremely successful whether you place a "family-money" handicap on him or not. Which is what you were protesting when you responded to Robinhood. I won't push it much further, but the article you linked with DB's calculation uses a vastly different accounting method than should be considered reasonable and even then Trump's notoriety has increased many times over since 2005. Also Bill Gates was born to a prominent lawyer, had the opportunity to attend Harvard, and had his business supported by his family (??).

#17109121 Trump Watch / General US Politics

I mean his entire life has been a massive success, so I don't know why you're talking about what he's done throughout his life as if it's something that you could ever even dream to achieve.

You're absolutely right, I can never dream to achieve inheriting a real estate empire, because I was already born and that didn't happen. Although if I was born into that kind of money, I probably would have just invested it into the S&P 500, as I am not a particularly business-savvy individual.

These articles and this post I find terribly misleading. I blame the media for putting ideas like these into people's heads. I would argue Trump is a very successful investor, and here's why.

The first article doesn't even dispute the fact what Rubio said was way off. It instead outlines other loans and deals Trump has made. Admittedly Trump has borrowed a large amount from himself and his family, however I would point out if Donald hadn't borrowed from his family he could have easily borrowed from private equity funds for his business ventures. Bear in mind purchasing a business is nothing like borrowing on a personal credit card or mortgage. There are all kinds of deals to be made, many with 0% down required (for more reading see vendor-take-back).

The second article is much, much worse, as is your own comment Yoto. " I probably would have just invested it into the S&P 500, as I am not a particularly business-savvy individual" . A business-savvy investor is what you would have to be to invest into the S&P 500 whether its through a mutual fund, or some other means. The practice of index investing did not gain popularity until the last decade. Investing into such a fund would never be recommended to an individual before the time of the internet as the index is not well diversified, it is extremely volatile, and it did not garner great relative returns until the last 20 years.

As for the article, it suggests Trump could've done better by simply dumping 40 million into a S&P 500 index fund & using leverage to increase his position. Firstly, the first S&P 500 index fund was not created until 1975 by a Princeton graduate, John Bogle with a specialization in economics. Perhaps someone who isn't business savvy wouldn't have had the foresight to either create, or invest in an index fund at it's inception? Especially considering the fund only managed to raise 10 million or so in assets in it's first year.. after being marketed to the largest and most experienced investment managers in the world.

To continue down this rabbit hole, the article admits Trump would have only earned a greater return by investing in this index fund by using the maximum amount of margin currently allowed by securities laws. This is not a beginner move at all. Very few business-savvy investors use high degrees of leverage to finance their trades. It would have been extremely difficult to find an institution willing to provide the maximum allowable limit of margin on a trade originally worth 40 million (160M inflation adjusted), especially in 1974 (where the chart starts).

The fact that Trump beat the S&P 500 if we discount leveraging is quite the feat in itself as very few investors of the highest caliber are able to beat the index year-after-year. This would imply Trump was extremely successful in his time as an investor. I would say by today's standards he is moderately successful.

To summarize, you would have had to been very business-savvy to invest in a S&P 500 index fund as it was pioneered a year after the article suggests investing in it, and was not popular at inception. Secondly, you wouldn't have been able to find a financial institution to sign off on maximum leverage for a 160 million inflation-adjusted investment. Thirdly, Trump actually beat the index, which is outstanding considering the most sophisticated investors in the world cannot.

I would argue Trump is a very successful investor, and here's why.

RSC will be hosting an Old School RuneScape XP Competition. The competition will take place on Easter weekend, from April 15th to April 17th.

Post your RSN below if you want to be tracked for the entire course of the competition weekend. The tracker is set to overall experience, but can be narrowed down to look at gains from each individual skill. When the tracker expires, a topic will be posted showing the top XP gainers from each category [each skill + overall gains]. A link to the tracker will be available closer to the start of the competition.

Be sure to take pictures throughout the weekend to show off your achievements on that board! If you're looking for tips, tricks, and training advice, head over to Questions and post a topic.

Zybez will be rewarding the top players who gain the most XP overall, as well as in each particular skill with signature banners in addition to three months of Exclusive Membership. Be sure to stock up on all of your supplies as soon as possible. The link for the tracker will be added in once we get enough players signed up.

Happy Training!

#17103242 Relaxing music?

I think this'll be similar to what W13 does. But essentially these mixes of relaxing songs on youtube. My current favourite is "tropical" themed.

#17088833 Are private servers hurting the clan community?

Posted by spoonheb on 27 February 2017 - 09:05 AM

Do clans using private servers as "safe spaces" negatively impact the clan world?

Yes ideally all clan fights would be in the RS wildy.

Do you think these people will ever give the real game another chance?

Some will some won't. Depends on the individuals.

What do you think led to these clans making the migration to private servers?

P servers are like the real game, just easier. They couldn't handle the real game so they needed to find something easier.
