Submit Your Daily Tasks!

19 September 2012 - 11:59 AM

Today saw the release of the Daily Challenges update where players are given a set of five randomly assigned tasks, be it killing monsters or simple skilling. These often come in the form of "Cut number of Yew logs" or "Cook number of cavefish". These tasks also depend on your skill levels. What we will need for the official guide is a collection of the kind of tasks that you have all got. We'll need the five tasks that you are set, and the levels in the skills which the tasks are related to.

I'll give you an example. Here are my tasks:

(also post your XP rewards!)
Assignment: Expert - kill 44 Slayer task monsters. 94 Slayer {missed this one :( they reset every 0:00 GMT+0 it seems}
55 Yew logs - 90 Woodcutting - received 24243 WC XP, and a Challenge mystery bag containing 15 Magic logs and 189 coins
223 Cavefish - 94 Cooking (forget it I'm not doing this one)
Make 6 Iron titans - 99 Summoning. Received 2611 Summoning XP, 1 Runite ore, 8271 coins
Runespan XI - siphon 190 Law/Death/Nature runes. Level 87 Runecrafting. Received 28526 RC XP

EDIT: My latest one is Brew 3 Extreme strength potions. Level 90 Herblore. Received 6179 Herblore XP, Uncut dragonstone, 7738 coins
Scatter 5 infernal ashes or fill an infernal urn with 5 of them. Level 96 Prayer. Received 2970 Prayer XP.
Assignment: Veteran (this is different from my previous Expert level??) - kill 49 Slayer task monsters. Level 94 Slayer. 9205 Slayer XP.
Plant 1 Lantadyme seed. Level 83 Farming.
Complete one dungeon on max complexity. Level 103 Dungeoneering. 124704 DG exp
5 Infernal ashes task again. Level 97 Prayer. 2970 Prayer XP (I got this one while I was 96 Prayer, then advanced to 97 then did this task)
3 Extreme defence pots. Level 90 Herblore. 6179 Herblore XP, 109 coins, 8 Mahogany planks
30 Magic logs. Level 90 Woodcutting. 24243 WC XP, 30 Magic logs (I got them back!! :O)
Jadinko Redux - catch 40 Jadinkos of any type. Level 84 Hunter. 36779 Hunter XP

Got it? Please get posting guys. ^_^ We do of course appreciate your help.

Eoc Video - Interface (For Beginners)

I made a video to explain the EoC interfaces. This video is aimed at beginners, i.e. those who have barely ever seen EoC or are just starting for the first time. Enjoy. ^_^

Farming - A Skill Overhaul

22 August 2012 - 11:12 AM

a skill overhaul

Skills are a focal point of the game. They are what drive the players to reach their goals, by piling on experience points piece by piece to unlock a generic special feature of some kind. In the case of Firemaking, for example, players are driven to get that magical Inferno Adze. To motivate players even more, quest requirements require them to attain level insert-number-here in order to complete the insert-quest-name-here. These examples here are why we choose to train ourselves every time we log on; because we want higher levels for greater benefits. Skilling is therefore without a doubt an integral part of the game.

Yet somehow at the same time they also seem to be a neglected side of the game. Some skills are just there for the sake of getting a 99 in, without actually providing anything helpful. An example would be Smithing, where with the exception of the ability to make Promethium equipment in Dungeoneering, it is almost useless outside of it. 99 Smithing is required to make Rune armour which is 40 Defence equipment. They are just another skill to get massive amounts of XP in, and eventually a cape at the end of the road.

In this suggestion, I will be looking at probably one of the most neglected skills in terms of potential for variety. That skill would be Farming.

Farming is useful, I’ll give you that. Herb farming is a good money-maker, but the experience rates are limited. For experience, you’d turn to tree farming, going round the world visiting every tree patch, planting trees, and repeating that process. What do you get out of farming in the end? Presently there’s only access to higher level herbs to really look forward to. There’s far more content that could be introduced here, so let’s get started.

Produce farming plots

There is an issue with the current way of training Farming. For maximum efficiency, i.e. to make the most of your farming patches, you must go to each and every one of them and plant your herbs/trees/whatever. These patches are scattered all across the world. What this means is that you must have access to a bunch of different teleports in order to maximise experience and produce.

In addition to these plots, let’s bring in some special plots: produce farming plots. These focus less on experience and more on the produce from using the plots. The worldwide farming plots will still be there, but instead of being forced to trek to those particular plots, they will now give far more experience than crops grown in produce farming plots. The basic idea is that staying inside produce farming plot houses (or areas) with a bunch of seeds is the conventional way of training, while teleporting to the scattered plots is a healthy bonus. If you prefer the old farming run method, that option is also still available to you, but now with a much higher experience rate.

To get there, talk to a Tool leprechaun found by every patch, or right-click him for a ‘Teleport-patches’ option.

Once inside, you will see 20 allotment patches. These allotment patches are smaller than the ones you are used to. You will also see 10 flower patches, 5 fruit tree patches, 5 herb patches, 8 bush patches, 4 compost bins, and 3 tree patches. These are more than enough for you to begin your produce farming. It should be noted that crops will not get diseased in here.

You do not gain access to all these patches at once. For every 4 Farming levels, you can use one allotment patch starting from level 1. One flower patch is unlocked every 9 levels starting from 1, every 15 levels for herb patches, 15 levels for fruit tree patches, 10 levels for bush patches, and finally 30 levels for tree patches.

Posted ImagePosted Image

As you know, the scattered plots take time to grow; in the case of herbs they usually take between 60-90 minutes. Time taken to grow crops with produce plots will be drastically reduced, so for example potato plants will take between 30-90 seconds to grow and the same goes with flowers. Bushes will take around 2 minutes.

Herbs will take a few minutes, but the amount of produce will be cut down to about 50% to encourage use of the worldwide herb patches. For the sake of balance, experience gained here from harvesting is different, but will most certainly be much less than experience gained from harvesting from worldwide patches.

Only in here can you recycle your plants to generate new seeds. Right-click on any vegetation like Potato plants, and click ‘Get-seeds’. You will get back around 5-8 seeds while destroying the plant in the process in order to grow more plants. The amount is 2-4 in the case of plants that require 70+ Farming. This feature will not work with ginseng plants (new allotment, more details below).

Allotments

At the moment, the highest level vegetation you can plant in allotments is watermelons, which require level 47. After that, you don’t get anything better. Why not have some more above that, and in addition, why not make the current allotments more useful? If you look at the price of watermelon seeds vs. the watermelons themselves, the seeds are far more expensive, and for a good reason. They are only wanted for the experience; the end produce is not wanted. This is the same logic with tree farming; you only want the seed for XP, after the tree is grown you make haste in chopping it down.

To start off, let’s introduce some new allotment plants. Their individual uses will be explained.

Evil turnip (level 46) – this previously had its own special patch, but is now an allotment plant. These are used as Summoning tertiary ingredients for Evil turnip pouches. When eaten, Crumble Undead's max hit will now be 260 instead of 160.
Experience per harvest (global): 100
Experience per harvest (produce): 37.5

Carrots (level 60) – use this with an incomplete stew to make it into an aromatic stew (unf), which can be cooked to give an aromatic stew. Heals 170 life points when eaten. When Spicy stew spice is used, one dose of spice counts as three
Experience per harvest (global): 170
Experience per harvest (produce): 60

Leek (level 70) – Add this to any potion to enhance their effects by 5%
Experience per harvest (global): 210
Experience per harvest (produce): 68

(these three pepper variants give the same experience)
Peppers (level 75) – Red pepper, yellow pepper, and green pepper varieties are available. One red pepper, yellow pepper, and green pepper can be combined along with a Bowl in your inventory to make a Pepper salad. When added to Tuna potatoes to make Pepper-topped tuna potatoes, boosts their healed life points up from 230 to 290. These new potatoes are not tradable.
Experience per harvest (global): 260
Experience per harvest (produce): 80

Jalapeno peppers (level 85) - produce is non-tradable. Grind this to get 4 (stackable) Ground jalapeno peppers. These can be added to potions to enhance their effects by 15%.
Experience per harvest (global): 360
Experience per harvest (produce): 120

Ginseng (level 96) – produce is non-tradable. Grind this to get 4 (stackable) Ground ginsengs. These can be added to potions to enhance their effects by 50%. Also used as a secondary ingredient for an Extreme constitution potion. Unlike other allotments, one plant will give up to 4 ginsengs, or 5 with Magic secateurs.
Experience per harvest (global): 2550
Experience per harvest (produce): 550

Revamp of old vegetation:

Potato
Experience per harvest (global): 25
Experience per harvest (produce): 10

Onion - used as a secondary ingredient for a weak ranged potion (tarromin is used as the herb)
Experience per harvest (global): 35
Experience per harvest (produce): 15

Tomato - used as a secondary ingredient for a weak magic potion (harralander is used as the herb)
Experience per harvest (global): 43.5
Experience per harvest (produce): 20

Cabbage - slice this with a knife to get 3 stackable Sliced cabbage, which is used as bait for catching Chinchompas
Experience per harvest (global): 55
Experience per harvest (produce): 25

Strawberry - one ingredient for a Fruit punch. Squeeze five Strawberries into a Beer glass to make Strawberry juice. This counts as one Summer sq'irk fruit in order to make Summer sq'irk juice
Experience per harvest (global): 80
Experience per harvest (produce): 35

Watermelon – one ingredient for a Fruit punch. Squeeze five Watermelon slices into a Beer glass to make Watermelon juice (4 doses). Spray this on fruit tree or bush patches once during their first two growth stages to shorten their growth time by 15 minutes
Experience per harvest (global): 130
Experience per harvest (produce): 45

Hops

There is a good reason why hops are an ignored piece of content. Their main function is to brew ales with the Cooking skill. Most of these ales, however, serve very little purpose except for the few which give stat boosts. There are only two breweries in the entire world, one in Port Phasmatys and one in Keldagrim, making accessibility rather limited. It takes almost 20 hours to brew 8 glasses of your selected ale. That’s three big nails in the coffin, and hence why people don’t bother to grow hops.

For starters, all hops are now grown in the allotment patches. The existing hops patches found around the world will be replaced with two allotment patches at each hops patch as a result. There will be a lot more breweries around the world; every single pub you find will contain at least one brewery either upstairs or in a cellar below, and you will find five of them together in the produce plot area. The time taken to make ales will be reduced from 20 hours for 8 glasses to 8 minutes for the same 8 glasses. That’s one glass per minute.

Any ales you brew yourself will have all negative effects removed. Asgarnian ale previously lowered your Attack while boosting Strength by some amount, but self-produced Asgarnian ale will only boost your Strength for example. Self-brewed ale will also come in three doses; this rises to eight with the use of Calquat kegs. Ordinary premade ale remain the same.

Barley (brewing ingredient) (level 5) – previously brewing a vat of ale needed two lots of malted barley. This amount is increased to 8.
Experience per harvest (global): 30
Experience per harvest (produce): 5

Jute (woven to make sacks) (level 5) – sacks you weave yourself are named Sturdy sacks, and can carry 30 vegetables instead of the 10 that premade sacks can hold
Experience per harvest (global): 30
Experience per harvest (produce): 5

Asgarnian hops (level 7) (makes Asgarnian ale) – raises Strength by 6
Experience per harvest (global): 50
Experience per harvest (produce): 15

Yanillian hops (level 20) (makes Wizard Mind Bomb) – raises Magic level by 3. 25% chance of double-casting Strike or Bolt spells
Experience per harvest (global): 65
Experience per harvest (produce): 20

Hammerstone hops (makes Dwarven stout) (level 45) – raises Mining and Smithing by two, and additionally gives you a 25% chance to smith/smelt items faster for 6 minutes
Experience per harvest (global): 100
Experience per harvest (produce): 30

Krandorian hops (makes Dragon bitter) (level 55) – gain an additional ring of recoil effect that lasts for 6 minutes. Does not work in PvP
Experience per harvest (global): 150
Experience per harvest (produce): 35

Wildblood hops (makes Slayer’s respite) (level 68) – raises Slayer level by 3 and improves monster drops while slaying. This acts like a second stackable Ring of wealth.
Experience per harvest (global): 190
Experience per harvest (produce): 45

Lunar hops (makes Moonclan ale) (level 79) – raises Magic by 5. 15% chance of not using any runes when casting Lunar spells.
Experience per harvest (global): 250
Experience per harvest (produce): 60

Flowers

The thing with flowers is that you can either choose to plant ones that protect your allotments (white lilies for example), or sacrifice that protection for plants that you would actually be able to harvest something out of (limpwurt plants). The introduction of some new high-level plants will take this concept a bit further.

Belladonna (level 60) – previously had its own special patch in the Draynor Manor area, but can now be planted in any flower patch. Used as a Herblore ingredient for poison potions. Squeeze into a Jug to make 10 doses of Belladonna juice which, when used on Slayer task monsters, make them take 20% more damage.
Experience per harvest (global): 780
Experience per harvest (produce): 240

Rose (level 62) – protects carrots, watermelons, and strawberries. Picking it gives a Rose. Place this in a compost bin to reduce composting time to 30 minutes (from 90)
Experience per harvest (global): 980
Experience per harvest (produce): 310

Aloe vera (level 72) – provides allotments around it with a 30% harvest yield when fully grown. Picking it gives Aloe vera. Place it on any patch to increase its experience gained by +10% (+5% for trees). Clearing the patch destroys the aloe vera
Experience per harvest (global): 1300
Experience per harvest (produce): 380

Abominable vine (level 90) – picking it gives three Tainted vines. One vine can turn 30 Dreadnips into Monstrous dreadnips which are even more potent.
Experience per harvest (global): 4000
Experience per harvest (produce): 1200

Trees

The main benefit of planting your own tree is the elimination of competition; no one else except you can chop it. The distance of most of them from a bank still puts players off using them. Why use the Farming tree patches when the trees are more abundant all around the world?

Let’s give them some exclusive Farming-only benefits. First off, chopping your own trees will give you a +10 invisible Woodcutting boost, as well as a +10% increased chance of finding bird nests. There are also little surprises to be found, such as saplings (e.g. Oak saplings if you’re chopping an Oak tree). These are different from the potted editions. They have a ‘Study’ option which will grant a batch of Farming experience, destroying the sapling as you do. Finally, you gain a 15% chance of chopping for two logs instead of one.

Bushes

Presently, bushes are extremely underused, and for a good reason too. Let’s analyse what kind of bushes we can currently plant:

Redberries make redberry pies, which are obsolete.
Dwellberries are almost useless.
Cadavaberries have no use whatsoever. They are useless. Literally.
Jangerberries, Whiteberries, and Poison ivy berries are Herblore secondaries, which is cool, except their yield is too low to make going round all the bush patches harvesting them to be worth it.

The old berries should therefore be made far more useful, and produce should be made more abundant. The bushes you plant around the world can now store up to 20 berries. However, they will follow the same style of allotments and flowers in that once the berries are harvested, the patch will be cleared and you will need to plant another bush seed.

Redberries (level 20) – alternative Herblore secondary ingredient to Restore and Super restore potions, the other being Red spider’s eggs. Also an ingredient for a Fruit punch
Experience per harvest (global): 90
Experience per harvest (produce): 10

Dwellberries (level 30) – alternative Herblore secondary ingredient to Attack, Strength, Defence, and Combat potions. Also one ingredient for a Fruit punch.
Experience per harvest (global): 130
Experience per harvest (produce): 25

Cadavaberries (level 45) – used as a secondary ingredient for Weak poison potions. Squeeze this into a Jug to make Cadava juice which can temporarily blind pickpocketable targets for 10 seconds, with a 10 second cooldown until you can use it again next. When targets are blinded, you will get a 100% chance of picking their pockets.
Experience per harvest (global): 170
Experience per harvest (produce): 35

Jangerberries (level 62) – use this with a Prayer potion (3) to make it into a Prayer potion (4), Super restore (3) into Super restore (4), and Super prayer (3) into Super prayer (4). The Jangerberries serve as an extra free Prayer potion dose
Experience per harvest (global): 200
Experience per harvest (produce): 40

Whiteberries (level 65) – alternative Herblore secondary ingredient to Ranging and Magic potions. Only the self-grown variety will retain the alternate secondary effect
Experience per harvest (global): 260
Experience per harvest (produce): 60

Poison ivy berries (level 77) – use 5 of these on your bush and flower patches directly after planting to protect them from diseases completely. This will consume your poison ivy berries
Experience per harvest (global): 380
Experience per harvest (produce): 75

POH farms

You have an entire garden area in your house. Why not make use of that grassy area around your house and set up some Player Owned House farms? This will of course tie in heavily with the Construction skill seeing as POHs are the absolute basis of Construction.

The POH farms will come in the form of Farm rooms which cost 30k each. To prevent people from filling their house with farms, you are permitted to have only up to 4 farms in your house. Level 25 Construction is required for your first farm, then level 50 for a second farm, level 80 for a third, and finally level 95 for a fourth one.

The farms will have four patch hotspot slots for allotments, flowers, herbs, bushes, trees etc. as well as compost bins. Allotments/flower patches and compost bins take up one slot, bushes take up two patches, and finally herbs/tree/fruit tree patches take up the whole farm room.

These work just like regular patches you find around the world. To make it much more balanced (so you don’t just focus on planting inside your house), these patches give only 40% experience compared to the worldwide ones, so you can choose to have the luxury of access to bonus experience and harvest just by teleporting to your own house and farming away, at the cost of inefficient use of your seeds.

Other miscellaneous Farming stuff

Offhand-slot compost filler

Ever found having to refill all your patches with the same compost a slight pain? You can do this automatically now with the compost filler which is worn in the offhand slot. Every time you clear a patch, one batch of compost will be removed from your filler and the patch will be treated. This can hold up to 500, so you need not worry about it running out any time soon. You can choose to store regular, super, or rich compost (more below) in this filler and can switch to use whichever one you like any time, by right-clicking on it and selecting ‘Use-Regular’, ‘Use-Super’, or ‘Use-Rich’.

To purchase one of these gadgets, you will need to talk to any Farming shop owner, including the gardeners that are found at every patch. You must exchange any one of the following:

250 Potatoes
250 Onions
250 Tomatoes
250 Cabbages
200 Sweetcorn
200 Strawberries
200 Watermelons

Fairy vine

The gardeners are also willing to sell to you a mysterious Fairy vine that they found while doing their own bit of gardening. This is a one-off add-on to your Magic secateurs that permanently turns it into a pair of Magic vine secateurs. Instead of a +10% crop yield, it increases it to +20%, which is invaluable for any farmer. You must have access to the secateurs themselves to get this.

Talk to a farming shop owner or a patch’s gardener to purchase one. As with the compost filler, he/she will only accept payment in produce. The prices are any one of:

600 Potatoes
580 Onions
550 Tomatoes
540 Cabbages
450 Sweetcorn
420 Strawberries
350 Watermelons

Rich compost

Supercompost is the next level up from the regular compost, but is getting quite outdated. Let’s go one level further: Rich compost. This is stronger than your ordinary supercompost, increasing crop yield by a further 10% and reducing chance of disease by 50%. Any produce that can be grown with a Farming level of 70+ are eligible for making rich compost. If anything used for supercompost or compost is put in the bin, it will turn it from rich compost to super/regular.

One Ginseng will automatically turn an entire compost bin into Rich compost. Any other vegetation added to the bin will let the contents remain as rich compost regardless.

Fruit punch

You may have noticed earlier that some fruits are ingredients for a drink named a Fruit punch. The ingredients are mixed into a beer glass and contain one dose. Up to 6 different ingredients can be mixed to increase its effects. The ingredients you can use are:

Strawberry
Watermelon
Orange
Banana
Apple
Redberries
Dwellberries
Pineapple
Papaya

When drunk, your run energy will be restored instantly to 100% every 10 seconds for a number of minutes, similar to a portable Oo’glog salt pool. The number of different ingredients you place in it determines the number of minutes the effect lasts.
