How-To:
So, you've gotten members, and you've finally decided to start a very fun skill when done in moderation: Fletching. The process of making ranged weapons, such as arrows and bows. So far, it is impossible to make crossbows and bolts. Hopefully in the future, this will be possible...
The In-Depth, Long-Winded Paragraph of Arrow Making and Bowcraft Basics
This is the basic starting gear that you will need:

First, get yourself a knife. The knife locations are behind Lumbridge Castle, Seers Village, and I believe in a little house south west of Catherby. I recommend behind Lumbridge Castle. Bring your hatchet (preferably runite) and cut down some trees for logs! When your inventory is full, select 'Use' with your knife, and use it on the logs. Three options will appear: Make Arrow Shafts, Make Shortbow, and Make Longbow. So far, all you can make are arrow shafts. Make some until your fletching level reaches level 5. This may take a while, so be patient. You may have on average 500-600 arrow shafts, possibly 600. Each log supplies 10 shafts.
When you finally reach level 5, you can go somewhere else on your fletching journey! You can now make normal wooden shortbows! But, not yet. We'll finish off our arrows. It is now time to collect some feathers for your arrows. The chicken pens are your best bet, or you can buy them at the Port Sarim fishing shop or Fernahei's fishing shop at Shilo Village for 4gp a piece. Chickens drop feathers in 3's or 10's. Collect enough feathers for your arrow shafts. Now comes the hard part: Attaching them. You attach feathers in 10's, so add those feathers to the shafts by using them on each other.
Here are the objects needed for arrow making, excluding the arrow heads. The objects are listed in order; Wooden Logs, Arrow Shafts, Feathers, Headless Arrows:

Now comes the tough part: Getting enough bronze bars for your shafts
You might be level 10 from all the arrow making, but just in case, we'll move on the the next move: Bows.
Gather some wood. Use your knife on the logs and choose either shortbow or longbow, depending on your level. After you have as many bows as you want, it's time to head to Catherby. Go a bit west from the bank and you'll see a farm. Go to the flax field, and pick as much flax as you have bows. Now what we have to do is spin the flax. The crafting level requirement for spinning flax is level 15, and you gain 15 experience points per spun bow string. Use the flax on a spinning wheel. These are located at: Seers Village upstairs in a house, South Falador next to Wayne's Chains, Top of Lumbridge Castle, and Barbarian Village. Since Seers is closest, we'll go there.
Here is a picture of flax, flax in the ground, and a bow string:

Many people overlook this part, but do not, do not forget this! It's the last part of your fletching. Adding the bow strings to the bows. Simple, just use the strings on the bows. This is the last half of gaining experience. If you leave the bows unstrung, you're missing out on a hell of a lot of experience!
Intermediate
Now you will probably have a high enough level for other types of bows and arrows. Keep persisting, slowly moving up the ranks, preferably making bows, but occasionally making arrows to reduce boredom, and you'll be a high level in no time. You'll notice that only two options appear when you fletch oak and above. That is because you can only make normal wooden arrow shafts. If you could make oak, yew, maple shafts and such, it'll be too much on the Runescape database, having more images and objects than is needed.
The best fletching experience, in my opinion, is fletching as high a bow as possible. But, BUT! You must make a plan to get rid of boredom. Here is an example Plan for bow fletching. I personally never fletch arrows anymore:
What Items are you taking when fletching?
I myself take these:
- Sleeping Bag
- Rune Hatchet
- Knife
What Logs Are You Fletching?
In this example, I'lll be making Maple Longbows.
Where Are You Fletching?
This is most important. If you don't know where you're fletching, it's impossible to do so! In this case, consider the location of Maple trees, flax plantations, and spinning wheels. The perfect match is the Seers Village. There are two Maple trees next to the bank. At Catherby farms there's loads of flax. Spinning Wheel? Seers Village for convenience.
In What Order Are You Fletching?
This is my preferred and most liked method:
- Cut 21 Maple Logs
- Fletch them into Longbows
- Deposit into my bank account
- Repeat 5 times
- Gather 21 Flax
- Spin them at Seers Village
- Deposit
- Repeat 5 times
- Withdraw 10 bows and 10 bow strings
- Attach strings to all my bows
Expert
This is where you really start to make money: Yew can sell for lots of money (explained later), and so do Magic logs and Longbows. When you rise to the ranks of level 85 fletching, consider yourself a god. You can make any arrow, and any bow. You'll be a master fletcher. And how did you get there? Through persistence. The key to raising levels in fletching is to be persistent. That's all, it's pretty bland, but fun nonetheless.
Just remember to stick to the plan. Remember, the plan, the plan, the plan... And you'll gain fletching levels like a computers hard drive memory lasts on a Half-Life downloading spree of mods and maps! Quickly!
Bows and Arrows
To make Bows:
- Cut some wooden logs.
- Fletch them into the desired Short/Longbow.
- Gather flax.
- Spin the flax on a spinning wheel.
- Use the new bow string with the unstrung short/longbows.
- Cut some normal wooden logs.
- Cut the logs into arrow shafts.
- Gather some feathers.
- Use the feathers on the arrow shaft. They attach 10 at a time.
- Get the metal bar of your choice.
- Smith arrow heads. You get 10 heads per bar of metal.
- Use the arrow heads on the headless arrows.
You know the new ranged weapon added, Spears, Throwing knives, and Darts? You can only make Knives and Darts. You don't get any fletching experience for making throwing knives. Darts on the other hand, land you an extremely, nearly negligible amount of experience. For each dart you feather, you get one experience point, regardless of the metal used. I could feather 14 bronze darts and get 14 fletching experience points, whereas I could feather 3 runite darts and only get 3 experience points.
Where to Buy Arrow Equipment
There are currently four places to buy arrow equipment.
1. In Catherby, at Hickton's Archery Store.
He sells all kinds of arrow heads and arrows, including crossbows and bolts, and bows up to Oak longbows.
2. King Lathas' Combat Equipment Store.
It's in his Combat Training ground. You need to have done the Plague City and Biohazard quests in that order. The store is the same as Hickton's, but it also sells two handed swords.
3. Port Sarim Fishing Store.
Here you can buy Feathers, they stock up to 200 at a time.
4. Fernahei's Fishing Store.
Fernahei's fishing store is in Shilo Village. He sells feathers, and he stocks up to 200 at a time.

Locations:
I will list the current known locations of each tree. The best location ever is Seers Village. Period.
Normal Wood: Anywhere. If you haven't noticed these trees anywhere, you must be visually impaired beyond the normal. I have glasses and can still see them.
Oak: The best oak places are as follows:
- Seers Village
- Tree Gnome Stronghold
Willow: At that little peninsula near the lady of the lake in Taverly. There are 1 or 2 willow trees amongst other normal wooden trees. Also, behind the bank in Seers Village near the Ocean.
Maple: Seers village. Sure, their are other locations, but what can be better than two maple trees right next to a bank, with another right next to the graveyard?
Yew: There are few of these trees around. They exist in the graveyard in Seers village and south of Seers rarely.
Magic: South of Seers Village, and south-west by west of Catherby farms.

Useful Tips:
The following are useful tips.
Amazingly, you can certificate wooden logs! The ability to do this lies with Chuck the lumberjack, just outside of North Ardougne bank. He currently certs: Willow, Maple, and Yew logs. The willow certs sell for on average 500 gp each. Maple, 1k to 2k normally. Yew log certs are the most expensive, being around 3k - 3.5k a pop.
Make note of all tree locations. You might find a place you'll want to stick to to fletch. Also make note of all knife locations too, because those buggers are freaking hard to find!
