Downloading Java
Java is required to play Runescape Classic, and you can either download the SUN Java Plug-in or the Windows Virtual Machine.
Enabling Java
This is different for each browser, so follow the instructions for the one that you use.
Internet Explorer 6 (Windows)
The first time that you access a page that contains a Java applet, the 'install on demand' component prompts you to download and install Java Virtual Machine. Once it has downloaded and been installed, continue with these instructions:
- Tools >> Internet Options.
- Click on the Security tab.
- Select the globe icon representing the Internet Zone.
- Click on Custom Level.
- Under Java permissions, select High Safety.
Java is enabled by default, but to re-enable it:
- From the Safari menu, click on Preferences.
- Click on Security.
- In the window, check Enable Java.
Only use this if no other alternatives work up to the standard that you desire.
- If you are using Windows XP, you will need to manually download Microsoft VM. If you are using an older operating system, ignore this step.
- Disable SUN Java from Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced tab >> Scroll down >> Untick 'Java (Sun)' option.
- Restart your computer.
- When playing Runescape, choose the top 'signed applet using default Java' option.
- Press 'Prt Scr' on your keyboard.
- Open up Paint.
- Paste.
- Crop the image if desired.
- Save as a .jpg and upload to the Internet.
- Find an image host, such as ImageShack and browse to the image that you want to upload.
- Press upload and wait for it to be put onto their servers.
- Copy (Control + C) the direct link and then when posting, place it inbetween two IMG tags.
This may work for some computers and is a way to achieve the old, smoother font effect. Right-click on your desktop and select Properties. Now go to the 'Effects' tab. Under 'Visual Effects', uncheck 'smooth edges of screen fonts'.
