General and Technical FAQ

Downloading Java
Java is required to play Runescape Classic, and you can either download the SUN Java Plug-in or the Windows Virtual Machine.

Enabling Java
This is different for each browser, so follow the instructions for the one that you use.

Internet Explorer 6 (Windows)
The first time that you access a page that contains a Java applet, the 'install on demand' component prompts you to download and install Java Virtual Machine. Once it has downloaded and been installed, continue with these instructions:
  • Tools >> Internet Options.
  • Click on the Security tab.
  • Select the globe icon representing the Internet Zone.
  • Click on Custom Level.
  • Under Java permissions, select High Safety.
Safari (Mac)
Java is enabled by default, but to re-enable it:
  • From the Safari menu, click on Preferences.
  • Click on Security.
  • In the window, check Enable Java.
Using the Microsoft Virtual Machine
Only use this if no other alternatives work up to the standard that you desire.
  • If you are using Windows XP, you will need to manually download Microsoft VM. If you are using an older operating system, ignore this step.
  • Disable SUN Java from Tools >> Internet Options >> Advanced tab >> Scroll down >> Untick 'Java (Sun)' option.
  • Restart your computer.
  • When playing Runescape, choose the top 'signed applet using default Java' option.
How to take a screenshot
  • Press 'Prt Scr' on your keyboard.
  • Open up Paint.
  • Paste.
  • Crop the image if desired.
  • Save as a .jpg and upload to the Internet.
Uploading pictures
  • Find an image host, such as ImageShack and browse to the image that you want to upload.
  • Press upload and wait for it to be put onto their servers.
  • Copy (Control + C) the direct link and then when posting, place it inbetween two IMG tags.
Smooth fonts ingame
This may work for some computers and is a way to achieve the old, smoother font effect. Right-click on your desktop and select Properties. Now go to the 'Effects' tab. Under 'Visual Effects', uncheck 'smooth edges of screen fonts'.

RuneScape isn't working :-S
By Joolker

If your Runescape game isn't work, you might want to take a look here.

Contents:
  • Gray Screen
  • Unable to connect to a server
  • Lagging
  • Sound Problems
Problem #1

Everytime I try to play Runescape, I just get a gray screen. What should I do?

This is a very common problem among the many Runescape players. Below are some various ways to help solve the problem behind it. If one solution doesn't work, move on and try the next one.

Solutions:

- Try switching to a different server. Sometimes servers can experience times of technical difficulties. This could be a cause for many different problems. This may not fix your problem but it's worth a try.

- If the above solution doesn't work, you should try the following. At the bottom of the screen where you can choose to go to free servers or member's servers you will see a scroll. On the scroll there is a drop down menu. Select the drop down menu and select the option called, "Signed Applet Using SUN Java".

Now, go on to select which server like you normally would. Once you get the game loading screen you will be promted with a pop-up. Click yes (to the Java install) and a loading screen will appear.
Once the SUN Java has finished installing itself, the game should go on to load normally.

- Another solution to get rid of the gray screen would be to turn off any firewalls you have running on your system (No, this does not mean you will be hacked if you turn it off). If that doesn't work, try restarting your system.

Problem #2

When I try to log into Runescape, it always says, "Sorry! Unable to connect to server. Check your internet settings".

Another of the various problems man RS players can face.

Solutions:

- Try switching to another server. As stated above, servers can be experiencing technical difficulties.

- Turn off any firewalls you maybe currently have running on your system. This will most likely fix your problem because depending on your firewall settings, it could be interferring with the signal between your computer and the Runescape server.

- At the time you are trying to log on, the server may be down or Runescape maybe getting a nice update. If you check back again a few hours later, I'm sure you will be able to connect.

Problem #3

I always lag when playing Runescape!

This cannot be prevented. It happens mainly when there are lots of people on a server and the server is trying to catch up with the info being sent to it. There are a few factors that influence how much/little lag you will experience at any given time.

Solutions -

- Your Connection Speed. This is probably the biggest factor in lag. The slower the connection you have, the slower your game will play as it will take longer for your computer to send/receive information from the server. Slower users (normally 56k) can press F1 at anytime to lessen the lag they receive. F1 will compromise graphics for playability. Cable or DSL is recommended for optimal performance.

- Your computer. This is, along with connection speed, one of the biggest factors in lag. A person with a newer computer (2Ghz+ CPU) will play Runescape faster then someone on a older computer (1Ghz and below). Some computers that are really slow (like 200Mhz or so) cannot play the game at all, no matter what their connection speed is.

The faster your computer, the faster you can send/receive information from the server, therefore your game will play better. Although, if you have a fast CPU in your computer, but it still doesn

RuneScape Classic FAQ
  • Where Should I train Ranged?
  • Where should I train Prayer?
  • RuneScape's Not loading
  • How many Spells do I need to cast to Get a certain Magic Level?
  • What is a Plate Pure? + 2 Sub-Questions
  • Are there any Glitches/Cheats/Duping/Stat Editors? + 1 Sub-Question
============================

Where should I train Ranged?
There are many good locations where you can train ranged.
Below is a list of a few of the best places.

Members
  • Level 1-40: Chickens/Cows in Lumbridge are quite effective training up to about level 10.
Other places: Dungeon Rats in Ardougne Sewers etc
  • Level 40-55: Guards and Black Knights (Keep Le Faye) are good to range at this level
  • Level 56+: Fire Giants in Baxtorian Falls are pretty good to range if you have high enough defense, and enough food to last you.
============================

Where should I tran Prayer?
Members
  • Level 1-20: The Khazard Battle field is a good place to collect and bury bones in Members
  • Level 21-40: It's best that you buy Big Bones from here on, unless you would rather train on Giants or Moss Giants, but it takes Much longer.
  • Level 41+: Dragon Bones give 60 Prayer Exp each, so it's a good idea to take a lot of Prayer Pots, Anti DragonFire shield, Monk Robes, and Holy Symbol.
============================

RuneScape's Not loading. What can I do?
There are a few possibly ways to fix it.
  • Clean your Internet Cache [--[Tools > Internet Options > Delete Cookies/Files]--]
  • Try using the RuneScape Client rather then a web browser
  • Try changing your Java setting to Unsigned Applet, or SUN java.
  • Your Java might need updating. Check this Topic.
  • Check your Connection Speed. Anything under about 36kbps will make it go really slowly.
  • When you begin loading the Game, do NOT change to a different window. Stay on the screen and let it load.
  • Close other programs until it's loaded
============================

How many Spells do I need to cast to Get a certain Magic Level?
Say you want a certain Magic Level, and want to know how many of a certain spell you need to cast to achieve the level.

To figure it out, follow the below formula.

Target Exp - Current Exp / Exp per spell

Basically, all you have to do, is cast one spell, and see how much Experience you get. Then just find out what your target exp is.

From there, if you want to find out how much it's going to cost you, use the following Code.
Rune * Current Price (Or the price you're willing to pay)

Then just add it all up.
Simple!

============================

What is a Plate Pure?
A Character that has the ability to wear Rune Plate, by defeating the Dragon Slayer Quest, and has lvl 1 magic.

How'd They Do That, Don't You Need Telekinetic Grab?
Yes, you do now. However, back when RS2 and RS-C were linked, you could trade most items back and forth. Therefore, you could get the map piece on RS2, and transfer it to RS-C, without needing magic.

Are Plate Pures Still Available?
No, it is now impossible to create a plate pure.

============================

Are there any Glitches/Cheats/Duping/Stat Editors?
No there are no Magical Att/Str Levels.
42 Attack hits better than 40 Because Its A Higher Attack Level.

No Dupers/Stat Editors In Existence Except Training And Buying, there use to be a Glitch where you could "Create" PHats though.

Wait, what? The reason people could get the map peice was because it was tradable.

there were two opportunities to get the map pice without magic. The first was in the first week(ish) of the quest when the map piece was tradable and the second was when you were allowed to transfer rs2 banks back to classic.
Signature quote not appropriate, please feel free to PM me if you have any questions, Geoff.

It was far longer than a week (I'm positive more like a year+), which was the main way plate pures emerged.
