So this weekend I wanted to play some Runescape again after a few years. First thing I noticed is that it's noticably quieter in game. No one says anything. It's not as lively as it used to be and I'm guessing it's because everyone is a bot. :(
Are there any servers where people actually talk?

The games been made into something where you really don't need to associate with other people. GE for buying/selling, Quest help sites give detailed walkthroughs, Gold selling sites help those get ahead for a fee. Most Boss monsters can be solo'd now. Training is very much hours of grinding by one's self. The game isn't really made for the socialising scene unless people make it happen. You can quite easily go through the game only interacting with a few people.

well the runescape community has degenerated considerably. normanator really summed it up. most people have quit because of various reasons (be that irl matters, eoc, or a lack of friends). but even if that wasn't the case, runescape was already getting stale and boring. the game looked like it was gonna implode upon itself at any moment. couple that with flower gamers, dicers, botters, and a company with poor glassdoor reviews and you've got yourself a recipe for disaster.

Typing = XP waste. Most people socialize via VOIPs (Skype, Vent, TS, etc) these days anyway.

Towards the end of my Runescape Career I found that most of the friends that I would normally have a conversation with ended up already quitting. I just took advantage of not having to talk, and just focus on the experience rates and AFK-ing certain skills. When it comes down to purchasing items, you could simply go to the Grand Exchange instead of heading to W18 Ardy and bargain a fair price for an item. Essentially they just made it to where you don't really need to talk to everyone, so everyone just keeps to themself.

If you want people to talk to, you could always check out Zybez' official Friends chat, zChat.

If you want a social community, join Zchat, that kept me playing for a considerably long time. Nowadays its pretty dead due to reasons listed above but whatever community that remains is either a bot or XP/HR hoarders.

but most people afk skill now (watch vids) or talk on skype or ts.

Of course in Grand Exchange, but 60% of them are afking skills.

A lot of people are afk, and many others are bots.  There simply aren't as many reason to talk as there used to be.  But a lot of people chat in clan and friends chats and also use services such as Skype, Teamspeak, and Ventrilo.

That is a load of bull. People won't be interacting much. Since it's been a little over five years since 2007, we're all gonna know all the best spots to train, best money-makers, any tips/tricks we've picked up over the years, etc. So basically, the only interaction people will be doing is to either tell someone to GTFO their training spot OR just interacting with someone who's selling something.

A lot has changed since 2007, the community included. What makes you think it'll go back to the way it was before with these servers?

I talk to people alot in rs, but that is mostly in clan chat ,pm, or freinds. Ever now and than i chat in public, but most of the time I don't. The reason when i try to talk to people they don't answer or they are jerks.

Agree with this. I don't talk in game very often at all because I'm usually on Skype.

Short answer? Waiting for 2007 servers to be implemented.

Playing 07 scape will help a lot.

No GE, so face to face trading interaction. Most private chat options disabled, its just going to be a lot more social then the current RS.

It is true the community has really dissipated over the years. Updates like the GE, making skills more afkable, and decreasing the need of others in order to be successful has contributed to this. I highly recommend checking out the 07 servers. I believe the community will flourish there.
