Runescape's 12th birthday just got mentioned on the most well known MMORPG News site

I can't even remember the last time Runescape got mentioned as a news story on that site

landmark moment for jagex. Good publicity for them.

Didn't even realize today was the 12th birthday of the game. Is it just me, or is there absolutely no mention of it anywhere on the actual site or forums? Come to think of it, Jagex hasn't really ever mentioned the game's birthday (as far as I can recall).

Jagex will just end up in the the discount gaming bin at your local game stop store.

It's great that they have made 12 years, but I am sick of them saying that every year that they have big plans.

The game has had many huge changes so far.
But despite that, I don't think I ever saw RS advertised on TV or anywhere else. It doesn't seem to have much publicity anymore, besides certain websites.

If they mentioned Runescapes birthday then they would probably have to talk about how it all began and that would raise questions about Andrew Gower which the company has avoided up until now

I saw this somewhere else recently too, not sure if it was a forum or imageboard post or something.. But hey, that's awesome! I have no idea what has happened with the game in the past 1-2 years, it would be fun to get back into.

Congratulations to RS lasting this long, and many more prosperous years for them lay ahead, I believe that if the community, yes you guys, learn to stop calling it a dead game it has a lot more of a chance then if a good percentage of their community just quits on them, but thats a discussion for another day. 12 years so far and many more ahead.

I bet no one really expected it to stay around for so long... and it's actually aging (considerably) well. EoC certainly helped with this. Semi-bright future?

I don't think it was supposed to be about the game dying, that's just where some people's minds are. :-(

But I agree, can people get over 'the game dying' because that's said every year, and every time there is a major update.

In the beginning I wouldn't have expected it to stay around for this long but I sure am glad it has.
EoC is hard to evaluate in terms of prolonging the game's life span and encouraging new players, however last year they did television advertising, began making YouTube videos and introduced a plentiful amount of content aimed at new or low level players to help grow their player base.
