I'll confess I've been on & off with RS since 2006 but I enjoy coming back around holiday seasons. I'm not 100% up-to-date with what's going on in RuneScape but I've noticed F2P worlds are deserted.

By deserted I mean that the majority, ~70% of the worlds, hover around 200 players. World 1 Lumbridge is pretty empty and I understand Trading is something of the past but even the Grand Exchange has no more trading going on, just large scale scamming.
Draynor has 2 people at best cutting Willows. The Mining Guild & Yews are bot areas so I don't expect any interaction there, but I just can't seem to find many players at all.

I've also noticed that in contrast to the dead F2P worlds, P2P worlds have a minimum of 500 players per world and more worlds. Is RuneScape F2P dying or am I just on at the wrong hours now? It's pretty disheartening to see.

I'm returning back to f2p, members world sucks.... In my opinion of course...

The F2P community is filled with noobs & beggars, the P2P community is filled with arrogant kids that are overconfident with their little toys(claws, AGS, etc.).


I'm not surprised that F2P is dying with such a terrible community lol.

Yeah, activity has decreased over the past year, but the game is not dead. Yet.

They stopped updating F2P, in an attempt to get people to buy P2P. It backfired and stoped the flow of newcomers into the games community.

Both. It's dying but, when you posted this English people were halfway through the school/work day, Americans were just waking up/heading to school/work, and Aussies were just getting home from school/work, if my timezone conversions are correct. Not too sure about the Aus/NZ conversions.

There's more worlds than there were in 2006 so the amount of players on each one has lessened. That and the game has slowly deteriorated.

Thank the mandatory "trial membership" (mandatory trial?) that Jagex hands out for new players. I was under the impression that f2p, while supposed to be a "complete gaming experience" in and of itself, was also a taster for members. If they have to give members' benefits to new players just to bring in subscribers, then that should really make one question why they have a free game at all.

I think a lot less people are joining rs tbh hence why they're doing EOC etc to try & make it popular again.

After a while of playing quite a few people buy membership as they're curious to what it's like, I still remember my brother telling me how him & his irl friend walked from lumbridge to tree gnome stronghold back in 07 when they 1st got membership. :p I got it a couple days after.

F2P isn't dead if you know where to look. I still play F2P a lot on my Pure F2P account and I am part of a large F2P community, lots of people in there pretty much 24/7, dungeoneering is still very popular with lots of people at daemonheim on every world. I wouldn't say that F2P is dead, or even Runescape in general, but it has decreased in players over the past 2 years I'd say.

I remember the days where the majority of the game was players. Now it has all turned to bots. Jagex needs to find a type of programming to keep the game free and is too difficult to make bots.

That's really surprising that F2p is dead. I remember when there were more people in F2p worlds than members.

Although the game in general (especially F2P) is slowly dying out in terms of popularity, you posted this topic at nearly 7 AM EST on a weekday which means quite a few RuneScape players are probably at school or work & thus can't be online. It's definitely more lively as the day goes on but it's still fairly empty in comparison to what it was before.

The game has been in decline for years now. Its no surprise, its effecting everything not just F2P Worlds.

I don't know if "declining" is the correct term. It's already on the bottom in my opinion... the clan fights actually died (to me specifically, in terms of fun) after the massive sniping tactic and the era after the wilderness "end". The whole game itself started to fall apart after this... lol. Internet raising equals kids raising and the game turns terrible.

Basically, after Andrew left, the game turned the same thing as music, television programs and some other things: these days those things are made to sell only. Even if that means you'll completely stink it up. If you make people believe that's the new crap: it sells. And that's all that matters.

Thats why you can buy XP and etc.

Lets hope for its' remake to be awesome as it was before.
