I have many times felt like I just want to quit Runescape. For good. But, I just can't seem to get off it. Some people in the "outside" world call this something like "addiction" :innocent:
Anyway, I always return after a few days of being away, since I just feel like I want to kill some td's, merch some, and ultimately get those 99's!
Every day I also see people who no-life (no offense) Runescape around 10-15 hours a day. How do they manage to keep playing?

So I wanted to do a few quick questions:

How do you keep playing Runescape (if you do...) and managing to keep up the interest level in it?

What do you do if you lost interest in it, but would REALLY like to get back the interest? (e.g go off for some time?)

And finally, how can some people keep playing the game for so long without a loss of interest?

I'm pretty sure we all felt a loss of interest in 'scape sometime... right?

Discuss!

I can with absolute 100% certainty say the only reason that I play this game anymore is for the friends that I have made here.

People often say things like "oh it's just online" or other comments like that, but I believe that only goes to some extent. I started playing this game in the late years of primary school, and am now in my last year of university. Throughout that time, I have gone through countless real life friends due to moving, growing apart, different schools, whatever it may be. On the RS side of things though, I still have friends from 2001, that I talk to whether it be on RS, IRC, TS or even over Facebook.

If there was no IRC or TeamSpeak/Ventrilo, I know I would have quit probably around 2006-2007 for sure.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

I keep playing because I enjoy leveling up my skills to achieve goals. The goals are a huge part of the game and really influence my playing. I also enjoy making money. This is another main aspect of my continuation of playing.

I totally agree with you Daz. It goes up and down, the interest. Just like a sinus wave :lmao:

As a reply to *Tom*'s post, I can only say that I actually haven't made many friends with 'Scape. :-( My old friend who I used to share with is now playing some sort of laughing game (LoL?).
Runescape will always be a part of me, but I don't know how long I will play it .

edit: Damn you Play All Day! Posted the second before me!

I started back up again after being away for about a year because I'm deployed overseas with the Army, and Runescape is a relatively cheap way to keep me entertained.

Its been just over a week since i've last logged in to play, currently lossing interest...Will I give it up entirely? can't say that I ever will, in my mind is that RS isn't going anywhere, those levels will still be there for me to get when I do decide to sign in, but whats going on in the "real world" that will not be there forever, so I'm taking advantage of every moment

@Icon_King remember not to think that you are protected by the real-life enemies by a protection prayer!
Otherwise I agree that it is a good and relatively cheap option for some fun!

Haha word. Well hopefully I see no trouble in this tour of duty ;)
For just under $6 a month, it is a nice get away from the troubles of life.

So basically when you get a quest cape you will stop playing? :suspect:
Well I never understood why people stay in the game for their clans. Could someone put me up on that note?

Most people keep playing because they're in a warring/PK clan and feel a commitment to them to keep playing and winning wars for them.

I personally started to lose interest 6 months or so ago, after finally deciding to leave my email got hacked, along with Amazon etc my RS Accounts also got hacked so that made the decision final.

Recently been after a game I can play for 10 minutes before work if have time to kill etc, so started an old account back up again.

I keep playing because I've gone past the "addiction" and will now play when I want to, not because I need to. I'll log off when I want, not when I've got this level etc.

Wise words my friend  Many people I know also got that sense of revelation of getting past the addiction. It is in no way bad, don't misunderstand me! I feel like I am pretty close to that stage too. We all will someday... :-(

Staying in the game for your clan isn't an odd thing to do, as for many people, the clan can become less of just a group of people, but more like a second family.

I didn't mean that it is odd. I just never quite understood it :XD: But then i'm not very interested in clans :innocent:

Clans have a certain attraction to them because of the laughs shared, victories won, the random people that you meet, and so on and so forth. And that doesn't just go to pvp clans that goes to pvm clans, skilling clans, and teams. Yeah you can say you'd get that in game by those you happen to stubble upon but if you don't add that person you probably wont ever talk to them again.

OT: I don't play for anything but my friends and that is how I've always played, haven't played much since the fps issues because my friends can't play.

Could you have said it any better?

Likewise here, I started playing during my primary years of school, sometime around middle school, then continued on in high school but by then I knew I wanted to quit the game because the game itself got ridiculous with the insane updates on certain items that were way too OP. I continued playing because of friends, because of the community, especially the community in RSC that grew better each year, because the game itself is very dry.

I have rarely made friends via P2P events in this game, most of the friends I have made were through F2P wars and clanning, and even if the only dialogue with them is online, that doesn't exclude the fact that some of these people are pretty down to earth and amazing to be around.

Had quit for a good 2 months end of last year then they bought back the wild/staking, so I returned. I've been slowly loosing interest again the past month or two, so finally 19 days ago I quit logging it, and about 10 days ago I canceled p2p. It's just gone down the gutter now in my opinion, so I dont see myself returning.

inb4 you still post on forums. Yes I do, just general discussions, the rest is off topic.

I have a quest cape, but they keep making more, and with my clan i have some people to talk too. Having people to talk to makes this game less boring and more fun. Because you can have some great and/or funny conversations. I know you can have bad ones too, but for the most part the conversations in a clan chat are good.

I keep playing because I find it fun, its a challenge the way I play.
I've quit on and off but I keep coming back because of a few reasons:

I have yet to find a game that I can for the same # of hours without wanting to gouge out my eyes, and simply I can't be bothered to spend around 200-300$ per month playing console games with crap plot or just generally slow gameplay or if I do find one I like I'm done it in < 2 days unless I have loads of other stuff to do and then its done forever unless i feel like doing playthroughs over and over to the point where I can be reciting the chat.

Runescape has managed to mesh together a lot of different things while keeping regular updates and quests that add a lot to do into the game. Started playing rs with my Irl friends and now most are gone but I have many more I've met online who I really value.

But yeah.. in combination with the community & the gameplay / updates and quests I just cant get away from this game.
