Last year saw a number of great content updates and improvements to the game, and this was just the beginning. We have some ambitious plans for 2012, as we continue to invest more than ever before in RuneScape to add even more exciting updates and improvements to the game.

From the 1st of February 2012, we will be increasing the RuneScape membership prices for new members. The new 1 month membership price will be $7.95 in the US, £4.95 in the UK and €6.95 in the euro zone.
In appreciation of our existing members, there will be no change whatsoever to anyone who is a member before the 1st February. The price you pay now will be locked in for as long as you stay a loyal member and we will even allow a seven day grace period should you forget to renew.

If you’re a free player who was thinking about becoming a member, now is the perfect opportunity. Not only will you be able to experience all the benefits RuneScape membership offers, but you will also be able to secure the current price of $5.95/£3.50/€5.95! Simply sign up for membership before Wednesday 1st February*.

Hmm just like a cycle, more updates = more expensive this game becomes, oh well, i expect it to rise in the future...the only problem is that there are some useless updates...shame.

Would love to pay more if it was actually worth it, but paying now while I see the bots returned after the famous nuke?

Good thing I don't have to pay £5 - I'd probably cancel my membership if I had to.

While I agree that the game has come along a lot during the last year or so, I wouldn't say it has improved enough to warrant me paying almost 50% more. Perhaps if we tackle the seemingly ever-present bot situation, and run better beta tests on new updates so that I don't have to worry about losing all my items while playing castlewars or something, then I'd probably cough up.

Is this just Jagex trying to make the most out of their game before it finally burns out (bot situation)?

I'd really gladly pay more for membership if they worked to improve the game but compared to '01 or even '04, Runescape has degraded like a piece of Barrows equipment.
I don't see how they deserve to make more money, especially in times members even tend to leave them.

In-game discussions has led to believe this is just an attempt to squeeze Runescape for the last pennies since they wasted a lot of money on lawsuits,
And can't afford to keep fighting them, nor do they actually succeed to keep bots out of the game.

Those prices are pretty steep for Runescape... I doubt I would've played for more than a few months if membership costs were that high when I started playing.

Oh well, even if I do buy membership again, it won't be for the long term, so it won't affect me much.

Funny. What makes them think RS is worth that much a month?

They're making upgrading to members more enticing by the day.

Does anyone know if the discount still applies for prepaid chunk memberships? I cancelled my subscription when they had that christmas deal and really do hope the old rate still applies.

That's quite.. sudden. Such a difference, and one I'm not sure quite fits Runescape. I suppose it'll do the initial job of bringing in a significant influx of members to start off with, but I'd be interested to see the rate of new, unique memberships a few months later.

To be honest, 5 quid a month is still great for this kind of entertainment. There aren't many alternatives to RS at this price.

On topic - it was predictable that they would increase prices eventually.
