The last drop for the sythe was at 6pm for British people and 10 am California time. So most players from North America were at school and didn't get a chance to pick up the sythe. So Jagex dropped more sythes on the weekend after Halloween.
Sadly I was 13 and raged that I didn't get a sythe on Halloween and didn't play rs for a week. If only I logged on the next day after Halloween. :(

I was actually playing on the day but they never dropped where I was!

Man, if I had been playing that day and missed the drops, I'd be so upset!  I have always loved the scythes but, unfortunately, I wasn't playing back then :\

My wimpy account has a scythe. It was simply just walking around and random scythes would appear on the ground. I want to say they did this because rares that were tradable were being sold for outrageous prices (go figure). It's been a while, but I want to say it was as simple as a random drop on halloween that was made untradeable. I wonder what price they would be at if they were suddenly tradeable??

Even though I am not true original classic layer, the scythe has always been my most favorite out of the nontradeable holiday items that I'll next get :-D.

I was never able to obtain the Scythe. I do however, own a pair of Bunny Ears.

Other than a few pictures I took in Classic, it is the only living proof I have that actually shows that I was a player of that time.

Pretty much a black system message came up saying "Happy Halloween from Jagex" or something along those lines then a bunch of scythes just appeared all over the world, I myself ran up north from cathebry and picked one up at white wolf mountain if i recall correctly. Thousands of scythes would exist still today, it wasn't hard at all to to get one, and the fact that they are account only bound means people wouldn't/couldn't sell them :)

Pretty much what ^ he said. There are thousands of players who own scythes and bunny ears but they just don't wear them or probably are very inactive. I personally have the bunny ears + 10 year vet cape on my pure and a scythe on my lvl 20 (before EoC) account.

In case anyone was wondering, this is also how Bunny Ears were dropped, but on Easter instead of Halloween.

I was pretty lucky to get my Scythe, I was really young and just happened to be let on the computer before Halloween, and managed to get myself a Scythe, unfortunately, I didn't get bunny ears, as I had no idea what holiday events were at the time.

I didn't read the majority of other posts so I apologize if someone mentioned this...

A message appeared and said Happy Halloween! And then they appeared randomly on the ground everywhere.

People were upset that they didn't get one... so Jagex actually had two separate drops for this one time holiday item.
