There are a few things that you need to do to get the best dungeoneering xp possible.

General Advice

Solo is usually faster xp, unless you have a VERY good team.
Buy a novite pickaxe and hatchet, a hammer, a tinderbox, a knife, and a rod with feathers as soon as you can. This allows you to open all the doors without returning to the smuggler.
Don't bother with resources unless you need them to beat the dungeon or you want the xp for the skill (mining, fishing, wc, etc). They don't boost your dungeoneering xp.
Farming potatoes and mushrooms, then combining them with high-level food can be worth it if you think you'll have difficulty beating a boss.

Binding

Mains below 50: Spear.
Mains 50-100: Spear, good range body.
Mains 100-120: Spear, good range body, good melee legs.
Mains 120: Longsword, maul, range body, melee legs.

Pures below 50: Battleaxe or rapier.
Pures 50-100: Battleaxe and rapier.
Pures 100-120: Battleaxe, Rapier, shortbow, and arrows.
Pures 120: Battleaxe, rapier, shortbow, arrows, and range chaps.

Multipliers

ALWAYS play on complexity 6. I cannot stress this enough.
Kill every monster below 100, to get the highest "Level Mod" multiplier possible. If you skip the monsters, you could end up with -15%, if you kill all of them, you gain 10%.
Explore every room you can, to increase the "bonus rooms" multiplier.

Maximizing Prestige

Play floors 1, 2, 3, etc until you reach your highest floor, then complete that and return to the surface. Quit your party, then go into party options. Click reset, and then start at floor 1 again. This keeps your prestige high, and can provide several times more xp per dungeon than what you would get if you did not do this.

Yes, binding the strongest weapon you can is of the utmost importance. I personally have a promethium 2h cause I like to pretend like I'm Guts from Berserk, but I guess a spear is more practical.

About this, is the XP worth it, considering you're starting off at 1?  Also, would it work if I were to say enter a new dungeon at level 20 if my max was 21, and gain prestige twice, then reset?

You can only get prestige bonus ONCE for each STAGE. Once you have gotten the prestige bonus for ALL STAGES, then reset.  :$

I always [repeat: ALWAYS] spawn with a tier 8 bow and 40+ tier 8 arrows (I have 125 bound to me anyways) - I instead I have a tier 8 plateskirt bound to me.

More tips:

You can use the home teleport unlimited times to return to the Smuggler quickly. Thus I ALWAYS SUGGEST buying runes to make a GATESTONE. If you need to return to the Smuggler, homeport and then teleport back to your Gatestone. [I suggest having runes for 2 gatestones before buying ANYTHING else.]

^ This is also useful for if you reach a dead end 3+ squares from the Smuggler.

If stuck on a puzzle/need help with the boss - talk to the Smuggler. He will provide you with tips.

Prestige is bonus exp for completing a dungeon.
The formula:
Base Exp + Prestige Exp, then divided by 2 for Average Exp.

To access Prestige Exp, you must be playing a wave for the "first" time. If you reset, it sets your completed waves to "0" (you can still access deeper floors, but it says you haven't completed them.)

The amount of Prestige Exp is based upon either the number of floors you've completed in a row (if you're only doing a new floor, and have repeated a few floors before) or the total number of floors completed before pressing the Reset button.

EG:
You've completed floors 1-5 before. You levelled up, and can now do floor 6. Floors 1-5 offer 0 Prestige Exp, but Floor 6 gives you Prestige Exp based on completing 5 floors.

Now that you've beat floor 6, you reset. Now, when you do Floor 1, you gain experience based on completing 6 floors before pressing Reset.

It's all about the prestige bonus! It makes levelling soo much faster! And try and get your hands on a strong weapon as soon as possible.

You may want to add that it may not be worth resetting if you're really close to leveling to an odd number, as that means that you'll have a new dungeon floor and you'll be able to increase your prestige without having to go through all the floors again.

Nothing about this mini-game that they call a skill makes sense to me. Now that I've read these tips, it makes even less sense, if thats possible. I pray that theres never a quest that requires high dungeoneering to complete because I can guarantee the only xp Ill ever get is from tears of Guthix because itll always be my lowest skill. I played dungeoneering for a couple hours when it came out & earned zero xp.
