So from the 12th to the 15h of March, members will be able to get at least double exp on normal training methods with a maximum of 2.7x the normal exp you get, slowly decreasing to 1.1x the normal exp after 9 hours of playing, at winch point the rate will continue to be 1.1x the normal exp rate gains.
This means a lot of things, it means skills temporarily being easier and more appealing to train such as Runecrafting & Agility for me personally which to me sounds great but to others may sound a bit lame, especially for the people already with 99's in the hardest and most effort requiring skills such as the two aforementioned, people who have put hours of work into training these skills so they can reap the benefits only available to the hardest of skill trainers, only to watch heir achievements made easily accessible by others, making them feel like they've wasted their time in a way, in respect to the hours they could have saved, and doubly so if it was a skill they hated to train like i would hate to train RC/Agility on a normal basis.
It also means skills becoming temporarily far more efficient to train in terms of expense, with double the exp per gp spent, which will make construction/herblore etc. be way cheaper. You could decide to enjoy the cost saving effects or even choose to train with a faster, usually more expensive method you can now afford, for example if you can afford to use oak planks usually in construction and if you're willing to continue spending as much, instead of enjoying the half price oak plank training, you could upgrade to mahogany, losing the same amount of money you usually would but and an event faster speed (this is an unproven example, i have no idea of the prices match)
Unfortunately, this update also means all exp records as recorded by external sites will unfortunately be heavily effected unless the few days are ignored by tracking sites in terms of the records they keep, or else we will lose them and all the hard work/no-lifing exp people earned by normal means will be lost and we wont really have anything to compare our daily exp gains on a normal basis too.
You also have to wonder how necessary this is at all. What does it achieve? I guess we could ask the same of normal updates but in the end, we demand those updates keep coming regardless of how many we like so that we remain interested in the game and have alternative ways to enjoy the game, but this double exp weekend doesn't seem to have a purpose because its both temporary and nothing all that special that will be retained after the weekend with the exception of our exp, so what exactly were Jagex thinking with this, is all this necessary? were large volumes of people asking for this kind of thing to happen? I personally never saw many people ask for it and in the group of people i mostly hang with, such an event has never even been discussed so where did Jagex get this idea from?. From my point of view it seems to be a stunt to attract more F2players to get membership and enjoy the weekends benefits, though Jagex do claim it will apply to F2P members in the future if the weekend is a success so i guess in the long run i can't be right.
Regardless, i don't know about you guys but i plan to to go mad during the weekend, primarily on Runecrafting because its my least favourite skill and the opportunity to train it twice as fast is one that can't be missed. I just hope i have completed Final Fantasy XIII before then or i will go mental with the decision of what to play, not to mention i have the first race of the F1 season to watch....what a weekend that's going to be.
