Today we have launched an update to the Standard Detail graphics mode for players with the Windows operating system (Windows 2000 onwards) and with Sun Java 1.4.2 or higher. The new Standard Detail mode is faster than the previous version. It also has options to turn on textures, shadows and lighting, which can make it look very close to the quality of High Detail mode.

For players who do not have Windows, or who wish to carry on using the old Standard Detail mode, there is a new ‘Safe Mode’ graphics detail option.

I can finally play runescape with some decent graphics on my old laptop

High detail would lag for me but this is working fine.

Smartest move by Jagex in a while, leaving the old low detail still use-able.

This new detail lags so bad it's not even funny. I can run HD at max FPS with 4xAA at 1600x900 res so it isn't my PC. I understand its probably because its a new update and all, but if I wanted to play on HD I would play on HD. I prefer the old one because I don't like change.

I don't get what you're saying, if you want the old standard detail you just adjust the graphic settings (for example the lightning detail on low) and voila, you have your old graphics. I don't see the problem.

Wow you can make SD have the really bad form of HD (without AA etc) now. Thats a step up for Jagex, finally I can play a little bit of HD with no lag on my laptop. 5/5 Amazing day Jagex.

New SD seems little bit weird to me (also horrible a little-little bit ), but this may be because of I haven't almost ever played HD.
Well at the moment I'm lagging pretty bad with new SD, but it seems to reduce with any minute I play. This is great update for those who have bad pc and can't play HD.

As long as they let me run the graphics at minimum(as close as possible to how they were at rs2 launch) I don't care...I Guess its good for people who enjoy the graphics though.

WTF? What could they have done that made it Windows only? DirectX maybe? I want it though, HD doesn't work well on Linux either
