Greetings all, I just want to get your opinions of the quest reward from Hunt for the RedRaktuber.

Access to the new hunter area where you can catch Penguins and the occasional KGB Agent for extra exp.

You can catch these penguins with practically any method, and the exp does vary.

Boxing red chinchompas - 265 exp, chance of fail.
Boxing Penguins - 150 exp, 0.0001% chance of fail.
Netting penguins - 250 exp, 0.0001% chance of fail.


The speed however, is another important factor.

Red Chins - Fast respawn, luring fast.
Boxing pengs - Instant respawn, very fast luring.
Netting pengs - Instant respawn, medium luring.

So the discussion is, which one is better?

I personally think Boxing Penguins is the new fastest way to gain exp. Compared to the risk of failing a chinchompa. You catch em more often, and faster. Yes the exp is less, but I think the speed\chance makes up for it.

*Please note - KGB Agents are only worth 2exp each at this point in time, im unknown as to whether or not this is a bug, but yea*

Though the xp from penguins may be a bit faster, the vast amounts of money involved in Red Chinchompas will not deter people from continuing to hunt them.

It is truly the fact of what you are looking for though. If you want money, Red Chinchompas (<-spell check) are the way to go. For XP, Penguins are the way to go. Nice evidence though.

Wow. Thanks for the heads up. I detest hunter. I hate resetting failed box traps. Penguins may help me finally get the last 80 skill.

No problem. I'm with you on hating to fix box traps.  Penguins are very helpful though. So congratulations on the 80 Hunting. Not sure when you got it though.

I did forget to mention the money factor, so thanks for bringing that up. Yes these penguins don't offer any money value what so ever.


So as you said before, It does come down to what you want. If your hunting for exp and a bit of cash, do reds. If ur a hardcore skiller, go the pengs.

I think penguins are an alternative to salamanders but not chins because the money you make from chins out weighs the time you save.  So for those of between 50-65/70 ish hunter, penguis are a great alternative to those nasty salamanders.

A lot of people have said it: Money > Experience, this is true for a whole lot of people and I don't think this new training area will bring great change to that.

And even still, chins are very fast :P Guess this new method is just "something different" :P

guess i'll do that method till high hunting
when your hunt lvl is high, you fail a whole less (my brother has 99)
and tbh 99 hunt doesnt take long at all, it's only boring
and the money isnt that great (boredom vs the money you gain) there are other ways to earn more an hour
but though i'd like to make some of the 30M+ involved in chin hunting

By those figures it does look like it could be a bit faster, and if people do want the money then I'll be sure when I start doing hunter that I go to penguins.  Nothing bugs me more then a bunch of people where I'm training slowing me down and money is never an issue for me so that will work out perfectly.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention as I've recently been training Hunter and haven't done any of the latest Quests. However I'm at the Hunter Level where I mostly catch Red Chins now. I'm wondering if anyone has any technical data on these Penguins for Hunter. For example Hunter XP per hour rates? I don't really care about money because I made 300mil off Level 99 Runecrafting. Obviously it's personal choice if people want money or more XP per hour.

I don't see Penguins as an Alternative to higher level hunting (80+) as you're constantly picking up box traps on Chins. For Mid level Hunting this could be good as you lose way too many Chins at 63-80.

Also note you need to release the Penguins. You do not need to Release Chins.

I was expecting some accurate numbers, xp/hour with both methods for example. Gonna have to time myself on both when I find the need.

I picked up my last level completely using penguins and it went pretty quickly.  Mostly, I netted them (and did some deadfalls when I first arrived, to use up the logs I brought).  At my level, you still fail some, but it still beats the heck out of hopping worlds a dozen times trying to find a red chinchompa hunting ground that isn't being over-harvested or making do with regular chins.

Yet.  I kind of have to wonder if there won't eventually be a use for regular penguins, maybe with summoning or something (or bait for catching polar bears, but that would be cruel.   )  I used to save the proboscis' from the mosquitos in Tai Bwo Wannai, and picked up the ones others dropped.  I had near 1k of them when they suddenly became useful for Summoning and made me very happy.

Personally, I dislike Hunter. However, after I completed the Quest, I went try out the Penguins and I grew a level really quick. So, I'm sure that whenever I do get around to leveling Hunter (and I will have to one day to keep my Quest Cape   ), Penguins will be my choice.
