Really good idea! Always have trouble finding people willing to lend items to me. Will eliminate the pain of having to use junk. The only problem with this is that they would need to have really large price per hour ranges. Not exactly a problem, but it would take a bit longer to get your item at the price you want. Anyways, this is an excellent suggestion! Got my +1, really wondering who gave this a -1 to begin with.

Sounds like a great idea. And maybe for the range have the mid price for the lending be 1% of the mid price of its actual GE value. So if the mid price on the GE is 100,000 then the mid price for the lend would be 1,000 per hour.
Thanks to Arno for the +1
Thanks to Teelex for the +2

Umm i have an issue with this. What if you decide to leave your offer to borrow in the exchange overnight, and your offer goes through like halfway through that night. Would your time start as soon as you get the item? if so, wouldn't you be wasting your money if you get your item at an inconvenient time? Or if lending, what if your offer doesn't go through for like 24 hours? then you would have wasted that time you could have used to find a borrower in person.

If there is a solution to my stupid little what if's, then i'm totally on board =)

Both of the players have to be online for it to commence. However, if it takes more than 24 hours for one or the other to log in, the time automatically starts - this makes it fairer for the lender, as they automatically get it back after 24 hours + the lending time, and the borrower still has the opportunity to get it when they want it and when they're online.

I haven't read the entire thread so I don't know if someone else has touched on this but, what if someone or some people took out a Monopoly on a certain item. Then they "Mass" lend it and end up making a fortune. Then 3 hours later they get the lent items back and can do it all over again.

Major issue: RWT

To get around RWT, you have to think RWT.
Gold can easily be transferred via lending out items at any price (even if Jagex put restrictions, ie. AGS- max offer 100k). Lending with junk at least reinforces a balanced trade, whereas lending via G.E. would be no less than a banner on the Runescape website screaming "RWT IS BACK, FOLKS!".

I'd have to agree with this, and I honestly think this completely takes away from the idea of lending. Lending was created to help friends out, people shouldn't be lending for money, even if it's the best way to maximize the utility of an expensive item, or to nullify dropping prices. Junk, as annoying as it is, is a very good balancing mechanism.

This is an incredible idea. Not only do I think it would work fantastically I also think it would make World 2, a trade world, much less crowded of people trying to lend their items. I really hope Jagex sees this and takes it into consideration.

This is a great idea, This could help many people lend and borrow without the hassle of going to world 2.

I like this idea, though I would hope that it wouldn't interfere with trade-by-trade borrowing. I wouldn't want to have to start ponying up a few hundred k every time my friend gets generous with his SGS >_<

Awesome idea, but they'd have to make sure they get the prices right...
