I know why
it's sad, but I'm a sucker for a kind word

Both of the players have to be online for it to commence. However, if it takes more than 24 hours for one or the other to log in, the time automatically starts - this makes it fairer for the lender, as they automatically get it back after 24 hours + the lending time, and the borrower still has the opportunity to get it when they want it and when they're online.

To get around RWT, you have to think RWT.
Gold can easily be transferred via lending out items at any price (even if Jagex put restrictions, ie. AGS- max offer 100k). Lending with junk at least reinforces a balanced trade, whereas lending via G.E. would be no less than a banner on the Runescape website screaming "RWT IS BACK, FOLKS!".
I'd have to agree with this, and I honestly think this completely takes away from the idea of lending. Lending was created to help friends out, people shouldn't be lending for money, even if it's the best way to maximize the utility of an expensive item, or to nullify dropping prices. Junk, as annoying as it is, is a very good balancing mechanism.
