1.0 - Introduction

With the introduction of Runescape's newest threat, players from all over the land have been seeking the riches of this wretched beast. This monster is designed to be virtually impossible to solo, not to say that it can't be, but extremely difficult. To reap the rewards, you can't do it alone. Call upon your friends and even your enemies as defeating this beast will certainly put you and your companions to the test.

Release date: 15 September 2008

================

2.0 - Requirements

First off, to even think of killing this beast, I recommend the following:
85+ Hitpoints - you can get KO'ed easily if you're not careful
85+ Attack - for melee
85+ Strength - for melee
85+ Defense - for overall tanking
85+ Range (without ranging potion) - for range [Ruby Bolts(e), Diamond Bolts(e) & Emerald Bolts(e)]
85+ Mage - increase your defense against mage attacks and spell-casting abilities
37+ Prayer - protect from magic
These stat recommendations are important as your chance of surviving is much greater with higher defense and hitpoints.

You MUST have completed Spirit of Summer and Summer's End.

================

3.0 - Monster Stats and General Information

Posted Image

This Duel Card, 1 of 10 introduced by Jagex, is not a real depiction of the monster's stats in game. Rather a representation of it's comparable power to other tough bosses.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Weaknesses:
The monster is solely weak to spear stab attacks (melee). This means that any damage dealt by the 'stab style' of a spear-like weapon will deal full amount of damage, as opposed to any other attack style/weapon which has damage reduction on the beast of up to 50%.

Melee weapons with a decent stab bonus, starting from the highest:
- Zamorakian Spear
- Guthan's Warspear
- Verac's Flail
- Dragon Halberd
- Leaf-Bladed sword + Rune Defender
- Dragon Spear

Ranged attacks:
- Ruby Bolts(e)
- Diamond Bolts(e)
- Emerald Bolts(e)

Magic attacks
- Slayer Dart
- Saradomin Strike
- Ancient Magicks (Ice/Blood)

Other Information:
The boss resides in a Multi-Combat area. In order to achieve 5+ kills on average before having to restock, it is wise to go in a group of 8-10 as it is much more effective and profitable. Of course the more people, the faster and potentially longer you will stay before having to restock on supplies.

Note: The Beast heals itself when it eats a familiar.

Do remember that some people will last longer per trip as its random in regards to who the Beast targets, although when someone hits high or often on it, it tends to target that player.

Rumours: (NOT PROVEN)
- Wearing Jennica's Ring increases the chance of getting a unique/rare drop.
- Wielding a Spirit Shield or Blessed Spirit Shield can reduce damage dealt by the beast.

================

4.0 - Monster Drops

Posted Image

Do note that the Unique Drops are extremely rare hence their value in G.E. and do not come by easily. Even in large masses for several hours to days will not guarantee a Unique Drop.

Holy Elixir + Sigil + Spirit Shield gives you: (Reference: www.runescape.com website)

5.0 - Inventory and Equipment

Since it is fairly easy to be killed and it's constant high hitting capacity through armour bonus, its not advisable to take defensive gear. Hybrids and Rangers are the exception as armour attributes to offensive bonuses. Furthermore, a '1-click' teleport such as Ectophial/Teleport Tablet is vital for a quick way out of danger. Lastly, do be sure to check the items kept on death before going to battle just in case you aren't prepared to lose items of great value.

5.1 - Welfare Gear:
Cheap and effective. Shark can be substituted with Monkfish.
5.1.1 - Hybrid set-up:
This is the most efficient template. Begin with Ruby Bolts (e) and crossbow until the beast reaches 50% health and then switch to melee. This build can potentially increase the speed of kills.
Posted Image
> There is a Zamorakian spear in the inventory - it can be substituted for a Dragon Halberd or Dragon Spear.
> Archer Helm -> Helm of Neitiznot
> Ring of Life
> Phoenix Necklace/Amulet of Fury -> Amulet of Glory
> Rune Crossbow -> Crystal Bow
> Black D'hide Body + Chaps
> RFD Gloves (Barrow's) -> Black D'hide Vambs
> God Book (Zamorak)
> Snakeskin Boots
> Prayer Potion (4)
> Saradomin Brew (4)
> Super Restore Potion (4)

5.1.2 - Range set-up:
More expensive, but to some degrees safer and more efficient especially with Ruby Bolts (e) - requires less running/moving. First begin with Ruby Bolts (e) till the Beast reaches 50% health and then switch to Diamond Bolts(e).

Note: Diamond Bolts deal 50% of it's total damage on this monster.
Posted Image
> Similar to the Hybrid set-up except no melee weapon and no super set.
> Refer to Hybrid-set up
> Recommended: Ranging potion

5.1.3 - Melee set-up (1):
Another set-up although less variable, requires a lot more running around to avoid attacks.
Posted Image
> Zamorakian Spear -> Dragon Halberd -> Dragon Spear
> RFD Gloves (Barrow's)
> Ring of Life
> Amulet of Fury -> Amulet of Glory -> Amulet of Strength -> Phoenix Necklace
> Prayer potion (4)
> Super Set (Attack/Strength)
> Recommended: Robes that increase prayer bonus (i.e. Zamorak Robes)

5.1.4 - Melee set-up (2):
Proselyte Armour set - prayer lasts much longer.
Posted Image
> Proselyte Armour set (L/Sk)
> Helm of Neitiznot -> Proselyte Sallet
> Zamorakian Spear -> Dragon Halberd -> Dragon Spear
> RFD Gloves (Barrow's)
> Ring of Life
> Amulet of Fury -> Amulet of Glory -> Amulet of Power - > Phoenix Necklace
> Dragon Boots -> Climbing Boots
> Prayer Potion (4)
> Super Set (Attack/Strength)

5.2 High-end Gear:
Expensive, riskier but quite useful.
5.2.1 - Melee set-up (3):
Guthan's Armour set - self heals and high stab attack bonus.
Posted Image
> Guthan's Armour set
> Dragon Boots -> Climbing Boots
> RFD Gloves (Barrow's)
> Ring of Life
> Phoenix Necklace -> Amulet of Fury -> Amulet of Glory
> Fire Cape -> Skill Cape -> Cape of Legendz
> Prayer Potion (4)
> Saradomin Brew (4)
> Super Restore (4)
> Super Set (Attack/Strength)

5.2.2 - Melee set-up (4):
Verac's Armour set - ignores defensive bonuses on enemy.
Posted Image
> Verac's Armour set
> Refer to Melee set-up (3)

You may choose to bring a cannon along as it kills the Dark Core easily, it is quite useless on the Beast though. Make sure you prioritise setting it up before doing anything else when you enter into battle and minimise the amount of cannonballs you take to about 150-200 for a small group of 10-15 people.

Note:
Only take items you are willing to lose, there is no guarantee that you will survive. You will only keep your best 3 or 4 items (with protect item prayer) on death.

Ring of Life is a MUST as it can save you from dying. I recommend taking a Phoenix Necklace (enchanted diamond necklace) - it restores your HP if it reaches below 20%, restoring 30% of your maximum HP. It has only 1 use but is extremely useful and activates before the Ring of Life if your HP reaches below 10%. It is also recommended that you only take food that heals 20+ HP (sharks and above) as the beast can hit you multiple times and deal insane amounts of damage in a short period of time.

================

6.0 - Getting there

6.1 - How to get to the Beast's Lair:
The best way is by using a Gaming Necklace, using the 'Corporeal Beast' teleport option. This leaves you at the entrance to the cave. This is the safest way of returning without having to worry about PKers and the like. Then continue through the lair till you reach the last entrance to where you finally defeat the Beast in the quest.

Posted Image

Oh Dear! You are dead!
Don't worry, you have 3.5 minutes before your items are visible to other players. In case of death, teleport to the nearest bank, withdraw a Gaming Necklace, Energy Potions and/or a Spirit Terrorbird/Bull Ant pouch with 'run' scrolls and some decent food (Monkfish+) and then teleport to Clan Wars. From there, use the red path and run back to the lair - you should be able to retrieve several items just as they begin disappearing. The purple dots are the teleport spawn locations of the Gaming Necklace (Bounty Hunter and Clan Wars respectively - from left to right of the map).

6.2 - Meeting Spot:
Gather your team at this location and check to see whether the room is empty by using the "Peek-in" option when right-clicking on the entrance.

Posted Image

6.3 - Peek-in Option:
When in this mode, you can view the room completely by moving your arrow keys to further investigate "whats inside".

Posted Image

================

7.0 - Team Strategy

7.1 - Before entering:
At the meeting spot, make sure your team mates are ready - check that LootShare/CoinShare is activated, pot up (brews, super sets), turn magic prayer on then enter the room where the beast is and spread out with your team.

Posted Image

7.2 - Luring:
To save a player(s) from wasting food and/or potentially dying while everyone 'rushes' towards the Beast (which is not recommended anymore as Jagex have updated the beasts abilities), you can lure the Beast by entering the room with Pray from Mage on (potentially reducing any damage dealt) and grabbing it's attention - when it starts attacking, you will know that it has your attention. Meanwhile, your teammates wait on the other side. Then the player can leave the room and the Beast will eventually walk up to the the barrier that seperates you from it, which discontinues its stream of attacks.

If the Beast has discharged an attack that targets you (not a Unique Attack), even if you leave the room, it will deal damage to you.

Posted Image

At this point, anyone besides the person that lured the Beast can enter the room without fear of being attacked. When someone starts attacking it, it will change targets after a short delay.

7.3 - During battle:
Rangers should be spread around the room surrounding the beast, while warriors should be circling the beast nearby.

Posted Image

================

8.0 - Solo Strategy

Since the release of this boss, it has been thought that it was impossible to solo this monster for several years. However, it has been done many times now, with a variety of different methods, including unusual methods which some 'dare-devils' have achieved and proven through video footage.

Before one attempts to take the beast mano-a-mano (on your own). It would be beneficial to have some experience fighting the boss before in groups so that you have a good idea of the monsters attacks. It is suggested to take a Statius' Warhammer if you can afford it as it can be a massive advantage, reducing the Beast's defence by 30%.

With

================

9.0 - Beast Attacks

Due to an update on the 15th of October to the Beasts abilities, the strategy of running under the Beast when targeted is for the most part useless.

Posted Image

Its magic and ranged attacks can hit high and often. When the beast targets you (regardless of whether you are melee, mage or range), it will start attacking you with either magic, range and/or unique attack(s). As soon as you realise you are its target, run back through the barrier, heal up and wait till it changes target. Meanwhile, your teammates are able to deal damage while it focuses its attention on you.

Once it stops targeting you, go back into the room and continue attacking it. Repeat the process when you are targeted again.

If the beast faces towards you, you should attempt to face its backside regardless of whether you are its target or not. This can potentially save you from getting hit by its Unique Attack. Furthermore, mage protection can substantially reduce the amount of damage inflicted by the Beast.

9.1 - Mage Attack:
This deals mass damage up to 650 but acts as a warning sign when you are being targeted as it gives you time to react.

Posted Image

9.2 - Range Attack:
This attack drains several stats, including magic and prayer and deals up to 550 damage.

Posted Image

9.3 - Stomp Attack:
This attack style is the Beast's defensive mechanism for when players attempt to hide under it so that it cannot focus on them. When this attack is triggered, it will act like a shockwave and deal damage to anyone who is under it. This amount of damage can critically kill someone.

(picture soon to be added)

9.4 - Unique Attack:
Claw-like attack which does not directly follow a target.

Posted Image

As soon as you see this style of attack going towards your direction, run away from it to avoid its multiple damage effect.

9.5 - Unique Attack (2):
When the claw hits the ground, it splits into several smaller claws that spawn from its origin dealing damage in its surrounding radius of 3 x 3 squares to 6 x 6 squares.

Posted Image

This attack can deal multiple amounts of damage sufficient enough to KO anyone even from 990 HP. It is important to keep your HP above 800 at all times.

9.6 - Dark Core:
The Beast will shoot out a Dark Core (Level-75) which drains your health and heals the Beast, it bounces from place to place. When you see it moving towards your location or to where you are currently standing, run away from it. . Even if you are a square next to it, it will deal damage to you and heal its master. Be alert at all times. It has 250 HP so is easily killable with a cannon or a high hit.

Another method to use involves Emerald Bolts(e) and a Mithril Crossbow. The combination stuns the Dark Core allowing you to focus your time on the beast as the Dark Core remains stunned for a period of time.

Posted Image

When you are near the Dark Core (one square from it), you will start taking damage anywhere from 50-100 damage per hit, which is approximately per half second. You will also receive information in your chat screen telling you that:

12.0 - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can you take familiars inside the lair?
A: Yes, BUT the beast will eventually eat your familiar if it is close enough to it.

Q: If I die, can I get the items that I've dropped back?
A: Technically yes, but it will be difficult getting back on time as your items begin disappearing.

Q: If I set up my cannon and die, do I lose it too?
A: As long as you don't die with the cannon in your inventory, you can get it back.

Q: Will the Salve Amulet have any effect on the Beast?
A: No as it WAS in the spiritual world, but now is in the real world which makes it alive.

It looks like an interesting guide, of course it definitely needs more information.

Important: You must have completed Spirit of Summer and Summer’s End.
I'd also like to note that it's not simply "Important" that you do Summers' End and Spirit of Summer, it's a must. (I simply recommend putting that little bit of information in a more noticeable place, perhaps at the very top of the Requirements Section). But anyways yeah, I'd think that if you had gone there so many times, you could at least provide some pictures of the beast of in game action, I'd work on that.

Your also missing Two of the most important items, the Elysian Sigil, and Divine Sigil.. You could also be missing a multitude of other items, so keep that updated as well.

You may also want to include a definition for the term "Dancing".

In your FAQ, Yes you can take familiars into the lair, BUT they are at risk of being eaten by the spirit beast.

From what I've seen, the beast heals from a familiar when it eats it, so you might want to add that in aswell. Good guide from what I see though.

The guide seems to be very informative so far, but perhaps you'd might want to add in other variations of equipment set ups that are also effective against the Corp Beast. I like how most sections have a few pictures devoted to the specific sections explanation, now if the procedure had a video or more pictures to elaborate on the strategy, it'd benefit others much more.

I like it so far and it's the most detailed guide I've seen on Corp Beast killing yet, so keep up the good work ;-).

How many people are needed to kill the beast effectively? (keep in mind a healthy split of the drops). Also, as Speed said, it would be very helpful to add a video of you killing the beast with a team. Just so people are more familiar of the process involved and are more confident and inclined to enter the cave as it is very risky and you cannot recover your lost items.

I'm working on a video and as for the number of people, it is highlighted under "other information" for the beast.

Yes, I've seen and used it too, it is quite useful especially when using prayer. I'll get a template up ASAP.

Actually, there is a huge difference in stab attack bonus.

On their own Dragon Spear is only +55, while Zamorakian Spear is +85.

You may want to review what you initially thought :) But yes, Dragon Spear is ALOT cheaper.

u gud teech k. had a question though... what about the other stab weapons? a dds + defender is +60 stab, and while maybe not as high as the zam spear, it offers defense + poison + speed. and if you add in a few strength bonuses, can hit fairly decent. just wondering if there was a way to combine a lower stab bonus with defense and strength to make up for it.

question@!!! does beast count as undead? = salve ammy?

Of course there is, but don't forget if you die, you only keep your 3-4 items, so trying to boost a low items stats up will only cause you to require more items of value, which you can readily lose in combat.

I have heard that the beast ignores the armor bonuses that you wear inside the cave (just like in the quest). If this rumor is true, you might want to reconsider your inventory screens and take out the defence bonuses so that they are more feasible.

The inventory screens are not defensively based. In fact, the opposite. Its all offensive. I have stated in my guide (which if you read) that there is no guarantee of survival and that people should only take items that they are comfortable with potentially losing. Thus, these are TEMPLATES, meaning, suggested inventories.

Furthermore, it is an unconfirmed rumour and I personally believe that armour does help, not necessarily magically, but against its melee attacks. And I will reiterate that all the gear is "welfare" designed so that to limit the potential monetary loss dying. Even prayer won't stop you from taking complete damage, but it reduces the damage or has a chance of stopping potential damage.

All high levels monsters will hit through your armour on occasion, like KBD, KQ, GWD Bosses. The fact is you can't guarantee whether you will avoid damage or not.

*Don't forget, it's considered the strongest monster in the game, so of course it is bound to have strong and potentially fatal attacks.

Yes, I have read your guide, and I have been to the Corporeal Beast several times. This explaination still doesn't justify why you added the following for your inventory screens:

Hybrid Setup: Dragonfire shield.

Melee Setup(1): Black dragonhide set, snakeskin boots, and legends cape

Melee Setup(2): Black dragonhide vambraces, and snakeskin boots

Melee Setup(3): Black dragonhide vambraces, snakeskin boots, and legends cape

Melee Setup(4): Black dragonhide vambraces, snakeskin boots, and legends cape

If this is the belief that you will stick to, then I simply suggest swapping your inventory screens out with something that would have better melee defence, like rune for instance. But if the rumour is true, (and it is proven in text during the quest) all the extra gear that I named above is simply useless in this situation.

Also, I'd just like to add, you can get back to your stuff if you do happen to die. You just have make it back in the cave very quickly. Teleport to Clan Wars and run in the cave before your items disappear! And equipping a spirit shield reduces the damage done from the Beast's attacks to a degree.

Anyways, I know several people are trying to get a guide up on the Corporeal Beast, and I understand the competition is fierce. I'm not intentionally trying to attack you with the intention of hurting you, but I would like to see this guide make it to the General Guides section. By my viewpoint, this is the best Beast guide there is on RSC.

Best of luck to you.
