In General Discussion, you may have noticed we have a topic which invites GD'ers to express their opinions on the forum, make suggestions, post ideas and show criticism towards the forum as a whole. I think, due to the amount of activity in this forum, and increasing interest within it, it is high time we heard what you thought about Achievements.

How do you feel on how the forum is run? Is it good or bad? Are the rules too strict or too vague? What would you change? What could we bring to the forum? What could we remove? New, or old, we want to hear your opinions on all aspects of the forum, the competitions, the pinned topics, the rules and the general atmosphere which resides here.

Thank you.

honestly not much you can cover but i think when you win an aotm you should get a big banner like you do now and you should get a small one like the ones in pkin have like "trueskillers best skiller for summer"

so they can put it in there signiture and show it off kinda lolz

Possibly splitting up the Single Achievement part into Monster Drops and Single Achievements since it seems to be swamped by God wars and what not. Seems that the monster drops draw attention from the smaller levelling posts.

I'd say get rid of some of these pointless rules, I mean come on, why can't we pot real life pictures or tell people what our IRC is. If someone flammes the post about the picture, screw it TB them. And if it's a flamme about IRC well hell wouldnt the IRC owner have to deal with that?

I'm sure theres more I can say, but at risk of losing my sexy +0 rating i'll leave it with that.

Why do you want to post your real life pictures? If you wanted to show them off, post them on the topic in Off Topic. The reason why we added the rule for no advertising IRC channels was because people were posting "Join my IRC channel *blah* oh and here is my achievement". We are considering allowing this rule in the main board but not in single achievements.

Mainly, its because in the past people used to post images of themselves which were fake or stolen from websites, usually claiming to be hot females to gain popularity, support, amongst other things. We banned them since its off-topic and thus un-needed, they can post their "pictures" in the pinned topic in Off Topic, where there is no threat of it having inappropaite repucussions.

or tell people what our IRC is.

Generally, this rule was to avoid hackers, scammers and similar. Since this threat is limited due to updates by Jagex, its in discussion to be removed as a rule. However, there are still downsides to letting people advertise them.

Yeah I agree with Broken there.
Maybe if it's possible let us be able to post more emoticons in our topics, sometimes I have to delete smileys to get room for my pictures.

Atarah: Then we could add something to that rule about advertising IRC. Remember back when you could donate stuff, back then you had to have permission from a mod/cl to ask for donations, so maybe a cl/mod could give permission to the more experienced RSC users maybe.
About the real life pic issue, I think it's kind of lame that we can't post picture, I mean people here should be old enough to know that most of the female users are fake, so maybe you could just add a warning to the rules about it or tell them to have some kind of sign in the picture that shows their RuneScape name maybe.

Ok well i think you should have a section for dag kings, or godwars.
It's getting pretty boring in the single achivements just seeing people get hilts or dragon axes.

I agree that the limit of emoticons should be increased.
When I used to have my own topic, and I wanted to reply to all of my replies, I had to constantly delete them to make the post fit requirements.

Honestly, I really don't see that many problems with Achievements.
Good going staff.

Eh, these are pretty good forums. I agree with the increased smiley's though...Maybe double the limit just for this forum.

I also have a little rant about the achievement of the month. The poll should be set up so that every nominated participant has a fair chance. The nomination shouldn't merely be just copied and pasted and put into the poll. The creator of the poll should do a bit more and make sure the poll reflects what people actually did over the month.

I already replied to Slamajama's pm about this, but i've given it more thought...
1) Seperate Single Achievements into Monster Drops and Levels, as broken said.
2) Add more smilies, they're too vague.
3) Yes, this is probably to have the pages load faster, but really, make the max image count more on each post, because really, if they really wanted to, they could just make more posts to have more images, and it'd still be as slow as them all in 1 post.
And just a thought... if you weren't allowing IRC channels to be posted on peoples thread, why were you allowing them to be posted on their things under their name on the left of their post, or in their sig?

  • Fix the bug where if you suddenly add a lot of text the entire post appears blank
  • The ability to post more pictures
  • The ability to post more emotions
  • Allowed to post RL pictures, but have a warning in a post that pictures may not be who they really are
  • Allow people to post IRC chats, but only allow it when it's something like (At the end of their G&A) if you wish to talk to me outside of rs/clan chat, you could contact me in my irc channel, #__________, not. JOIN MY IRC! Oh, and here's my G&a. Or at least something along that line.
  • Smaller AOTM sig. As someone said, if I ever won the AOTM I'd want to be able to put it in my signature on rsc as well as other forums without having to worry about exceeding the signature limits.

All I can think of for now,

Thanks for explaining that.

I hope that advertising IRC channels gets passed in voting, i'd like to be able to put a little bit more stock into mine.

Still beside the point. We want people here to be posting about Achievements. Not real life pictures. In the past when people posted them, their threads would be flooded with posts, not because of the achievements they made but because of the picture they posted. Just post them in the RL Pictures thread in the Off Topic discussion where they belong. They made that there to avoid RL Pictures flooding the rest of RSC. And not everyone here is at the maturity level to distinguish between what is a real picture and what is a fake one.

Personally myself I like the idea of splitting up the Single Achievements into Drops and Achievements as long as it does not decrease the activity of either forum significantly.

IRC: Already been discussed. Not a bad idea, but if implemented it should be used only for the main Achievement threads and note that IRC Channels may not be safe and should be used at the risk of the user involved.

More emoticons: The only time this is a problem for me is when I'm quoting massive amounts of posts to respond to. Simply change the :-) to :). Same effect. If your using that many emoticons in your first post, maybe you've added too many. Really emotes aren't necessary to convey your feelings about something, and they're only here to be something a little fun to spice up your post, and too many can take away from what your actually saying and can get annoying.

Well here in the achievements forum we show all kinds of Runescape pictures, such as lvls, drops, banks, funny pics etc. And most of the threads have some kind of introduction where they tell something about their Runescape character and about their real life, so it's just some kind of bonus to post a real life picture once you're at it already.

I don't agree with you there - I have had the message with too many emoticons a few times, and smileys also count as an emoticon, yeah maybe you do the ":)" but I actually like to see the smiley.
Also saying that you might have added too many pics if you get the message is also wrong in my opinion - personally I have 17 lvls 99's that I wanna show pics of and then I have other major achievements that I also want to show, and then of course the bank pic, recent achievements etc and I have many more achievements that I would have showed if it wasn't for the emoticon limit.
Also the achievement of the month has the category "best looking thread" that could really change if we had chance to show more emoticons, because then we could get our thread to look better instead of just normal "handwritting".

Also the achievement of the month has the category "best looking thread" that could really change if we had chance to show more emoticons, because then we could get our thread to look better instead of just normal "handwritting".

There are other features involved in the AotM Best Thread than emoticons. If you have to use emoticons to make your thread look good your approaching it the wrong way. Most of the threads that have won have used an extensive amount of complex BBCoing to add color and flare to their thread. Emoticons are useful, but I don't think you need one for every sentence written (Yes I have seen people do this). Use them to add flare, but don't abuse the amount you could potentially have. From the sounds of what your saying, you like pictures better than text anyways. And less text means a lesser need for emoticons, in which you shouldn't be passing the limit anyways.

The picture limit is there for a reason. Thats an all around the board setting, because personally when I click on a thread, I don't want it to have to load 100 pictures. For many that could crash their computer, and is just annoying to have to load that many. Maybe you personally would not use 100 pictures, but I know for a fact that if the bar was set that high, people would try to reach it. You can still show all your pictures in a linked form, which is just as feasible. You can show your 99 pictures, your recent level up pictures (past week?) and the rest you can put in a linked form and your thread will still look just as good. Loads of pictures doesn't make your appear more attractive for a competition. Often it can just make your thread appear cluttered and messy if not arranged in an appropriate manner.

And again with the real life pictures. You said it yourself, they're showing their stats, achievements, banks. This is for RuneScape Achievements, not real life achievements. Atarah has already explained this... they're off topic, they lead to off-topic discussion within the topic itself, and often the RL Pictures are used as a way to judge certain topic creators. Who cares what they look like, they're not posting for self-assurance of their looks. If they want that, then put it in the off-topic thread that was created for it.

I'm almost certain this hasn't been suggested yet. Thread of the Week! Each of the forum-specific CLs chooses one thread that they personally like in a sticky. Tramp Boy 2 for first week, Krystal for second week, Slamajama for third week, and flava for rest of the month ( sorry for february :P ). This'll give certain "unknown" threads more attention. The sticky would never be changed, following this sort of format:

2008

January

Week 1:This guy
Week 2:This girl
Week 3:iTommy
Week 4:iTeddy

February

Week 1:G-unit

Color formatted as desired. Just a suggestion, it would help, maybe. Please take it to heart!

Oh, and some mods who aren't to harsh.
I think this would be great. Or maybe change to:
TotW, where the person with thread, acutally updates every day, has a nice, readable post, etc etc.

I also thing that the Single Ach's should be split into Single Ach, then Monster Drops. I like to see more levels than drops. :\

Up the anti with the pics, and emotes. The person with the thread; who has more pics and emote should ask a mod to look over their thread, giving them more rights to add more pics and emotes.

Thats it, and most is said already. xD
