Ok well still paying on it. Kind of regret buying it from the dealership but kind of dont. I wanted an uncommon car to fix up and make look good and sound good. WELL thats what I got...but I kind of bit off more than I can chew. Going to post this topic on a couple other forums when I get closer to where I want the car. Felt like posting here for the hell of it. Dont know why since their probably isnt many car and audio enthusiasts on this forum since it is a runescape forum...which is mostly inhabited by kids. But o well. Their are still a good amount on this forum that actually is old enough to where their in college and can have a full time job and all that fun stuff. Also I Still owe $305 on the car.

Current to do list as of getting the car(in order):

  • Try to clean the fuel system with injector cleaner+octane booster.
  • Oil Change+Air Filter+Oil Filter
  • Fuel filter change
  • Replace Front motor mount (only one on the motor its self).
  • Replace Front left Tranny Mount
  • Tune up (plugs and wire)
  • Get rid of back firing+bogging down when accelerating
  • Install temporary Audio System (2 12" Alpine Type Rs with a AP1500ld Mono Block.)
  • Buy Factory Service Manual
  • Get a front right headlight (Found a whole front end for just $20...bumpers lights and all.)
  • Clean Fuel Injectors by removing and possibly replacing
  • Replace oxygen sensors
  • Install new doughnut gasket
  • Fix Diagnostic Code 30 (ISC RPM out of range)
  • Fix Diagnostic Code 49 (Air Injection Reaction (AIR) System Fault...was told its another way of saying my smog pump is screwed up)
  • Install Catalytic Converter since previous owner removed
  • If car still has a miss...FIX IT
  • Buy Hood Struts
  • Buy high output alternator
  • Buy bigger output battery
  • Fix passenger door lock & put window fully back on track
  • Install Car Alarm
  • Sound Deaden Trunk
  • Tint Windows
  • Buy another of the exact same battery.
  • Upgrade wires under the hood to 0 gauge wires.
  • Upgrade 4 gauge power wires for amp to 0 gauge
  • Buy 2 15" Audio Que subs OR 2 FIQ 15" subs...cant decide and another AP15001d amp.
  • Make Custom Box for the subs & install system
  • MAYBE add rear air shocks to compensate for the weight of the subs. Look at around an extra 150 pounds.
  • Repaint car with original paint to get rid of rust spots.
  • Buy seat covers for front seats
  • Buy Chrome Skirts

Also one of the reasons of me posting this would be simply to ask for help. Maybe someone here actually does own a car and knows a bit about them. Already posted a topic about help on the Cadillac Forums...BUT a car is a like a person. Takes several people to come up with something about the car that could be messed up.

Here is what the car is doing right now:

When accelerating the car shakes a bit after it switches gear until it hits a higher rpm...then it switches gears again and once again it shakes until it hits a higher rpm. Also from time to time it acts like it gears down and starts shaking until I let off the gas or push the gas in further...and it repeats. It is also getting around 9-11 a gallon when it should be getting 17. It was getting 17 and would squeel tires when you push the gas a little too hard from a complete stop. Now it barely does it...usually dont but sometimes it will.

So yea any ideas?

Also any ideas for possible subs? Wanting 3,000 watts and only thing I can come up with is 2 audioques...rated for 1k rms each but is known to take more after broken in. Not wanting to spend more than $500 on subs.

Pic of car:

Rear of the car sits a tad lower than that now due to the subs lol. This was before I got em.

Will add a few more soon or later.

Here is another forum I posted on.

Well it sure looks like you've got alot of work ahead of you. More than I'd ever want in a used automobile, but to each his/her own.

-One of the biggest tips I can give you is do NOT skimp out on the paint. The only right way to paint a car is to paint it panel-off. Sure, it's expensive. Cost me $4200 for my paint and bodywork, but considering it was two layers of primer, seven layers of viper yellow, and then three coats of clear, I've got a shine I couldn't believe. Buddy of mine has an old Corvette that he payed $1200 to have repainted a metallic blue. Looks good from 3 feet away, but then when you start looking into the corners and curves is when you notice faults. Especially around the doors.
Don't get me wrong it's a nice car, but the details are what matter the most.
Do yourself a favor and invest in a panel-off paint job. Or take the panels off yourself, have them painted, and put them back on yourself. You'll save a good $1000-1500 in labor.

-If you're going to put sound deadener in the trunk, you might as well do the whole car too. Use Dynamat on the floor pans, doors, and behind the passenger seats. You don't have to do the ceiling.
-When you're fixing your door locks, lube the door hinges and the lock mechanism. Better safe than sorry: you don't want a window motor seizing up. It happens sometimes.
-About your shaking problems. If you weren't claiming that you were losing fuel economy I'd have told you that your wheels might need to be balanced.
-Vibrating car alarm keyfobs are becoming cheap now. I'd also recommend one, but don't get one that's too sensetive. Emphasis on sensative.
-You could probably stick with your stock alternator if you bought two 8" subs. This is just my personal suggestion and assumption.

I'm more of an engine guy than an audiophile, but I'd go with Rockford Fosgate components for your stereo. My grilfriend has them in her Lancer and their audio equipment is top notch.

That's pretty much everything I thought I'd throw out there. Hope some of it helps.

He knows what he's talking about. . Me and my dad fixed up an '83 corvette, looks real nice now. But like he said, it's the details that count, so DEFENATELY get a good off panel paint job.
Completely clean of any wrong-doings since 7-7-09.

Ooo ty for the reply.

The paint job will be no where near as exspensive since I can do it myself or I can just take it up to the school im starting in January. Will be majoring in Auto Body. SO yea...free labor but not free paint. Also yea I know...had no intention of leaving the removable body parts on the car.

Also wont be using dynamat...will be using second skin. Same thing but MUCH cheaper. Also the trunk will get rid of most of the vibrations...its where the most is coming from right now.

Vibrating car alarm keyfob?...what?........

Also I want 3k watts so yea...need a better alternator and all that fun stuff. The 1500 I got right now are causing the lights to dim a bit. Voltage drops .6. Also yea Rockford is by far one of the better brands out their. Which is why its REALLY pricey lol. Audiopipe are really really good budget amps. $150 for 1500 watts. AQ are also really good subs for the price. Really just got the AQ idea from a car audio forum.

Would you rather have a car alarm system that sounds an alarm when someone is trying to break into your car, or have a car alarm system that sounds an alarm AND has a vibrating keyfob that you keep on your set of keys to notify you of a burglary?

What did you think I was talking about? A sex toy?

I don't think he knew what a Keyfob is. :XD:

Check your sensors and things for that fuel decline. My '97 Isuzu Rodeo was gobbling gas until we replaced my mass air for sensor, among some other things. My acceleration was also pretty poor too.

I'm a car noob, so I might be saying things that have no significance. But, I'm learning here and there.

e: Brad, that car looks amazing.

OOOOOO

The term keyfob completely threw me off. Had no idea they made a vibrating key chain lol. So HEY this topic actually did help me lol.

O yea that was another thing. Going to replace oxygen sensors and take out the fuel injectors and actually clean them and maybe replace a few depending on the shape their in.

Oh.. damn. Had some ideas about why the car would be shaking, but obviously thrown out the window now. Good luck with the car, I'm restoring a 68' Camaro SS at the moment, don't really know much about subs ect. but I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if I can be useful for anything.

Oo...after you get it restored ill trade ya :XD:

Had a chance to get one for a damn good price. Ran perfect for the most part. The body just looked like complete crap, was missing the rear window, front window was cracked, the driver seat was just...WOW...its like the middle springs or something were taken out and the seat wasnt bolted down. Was just too exspensive for me since I need a daily driver on top of something to fix up. Well also it had water damage of course...

Yeah, one of my O2 sensors is going to run out soon, but the work I had recently did the job for me for now. Going to replace this sensor next month sometime. We had cleaned all of the sensors and it didn't do the trick, so we actually had to replace some.

lol, that's an odd car to be working on man. You could have done a nicer looking uncommon classic car, like a 60-70's model Oldsmobile Tornado, Ford Maverick, or Cadillac Eldorado. But, to each his own I suppose.

Well like I said I needed a car that I could use as a daily driver and still do work to it BUT at the same time have it payed off before January. Also wanted a car with power but still got decent gas mileage...which the car is supposed to get 17 and 22 highway. Got that when I first got it...a month later stuff started messing up more lol. Would have killed for a older Oldsmobile...by far one of my favorite types of classic cars. Well that and Monte Carlo. BUT yea...any true classic car isnt cheap if its running enough for a dealership to have it. Didnt have cash on hand and needed a car desperately...all I had was $600. SOOO yea...

Have yet to see a 1990 Cadillac Deville fixed up beyond stock around where I live. Hell since ive gotten this car ive maybe seen 4 or 5...a couple were actually fleetwoods but close enough. I love the old car...just wish it ran better. Have no intentions of ever getting rid of it. First car ive bought for myself. First car period was a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88. Was a old car that set on a farm for a few years...got it for $500. Tranny went out on it...so got rid of it. Glad I did instead of buying a new one...motor threw a rod about a year after I sold it.

Lol plan on cleaning current rims up a bit and keeping them.

Only way id buy new rims is if I could find a set of chrome blades cheap.

Sounds like it may be shifting too soon. Generally if the RPM's get too low it will shake.

I suppose it could be shifting at the right time, but the engine isn't making enough power (also could explain the drop in MPG)

A less likely thing that could have happened, is the transmission could be stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear, this would also explain why it's unable to spin the tires from a stop. An easy way to tell this is to find out how many gears the transmission should have, then try to count the gears as the trans shifts.

I'm sure there are a bunch of other reasons, but these are the first that I thought of.

Sounds like it may be shifting too soon. Generally if the RPM's get too low it will shake.

Transmission is the first thing I considered. It shifts out through every gear just fine. 3rd works fine, 2nd works fine, and first works fine.

ALSO figured out something else yesterday morning.

CAR GOES CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK. Not bad enough to be a rod clicking...but still worries me.

Is this noise coming from the engine? or is it only there when the car is moving?

If it is coming from the engine, it could be something sticking slightly. I would try some injector cleaner, just make sure it would be safe to use in the car.

I would recommended Lucas Fuel Treatment (Upper Cylinder and Injector cleaner) It also claims to improve fuel efficiency. I recommend this because we had a old car we used this in and it did improve power, and gas mileage. But it did also quite the "clicking" noises from the engine. It didn't completely stop the clicking, but it was much quieter, but the car had over 210k miles, and was 14 years old.

Ty I will go ahead and use it. Figured out where the clicking was coming from though...the idler pulley.

Looks like a good project, i'm not much for sound systems, as long as I can hear the music over my trucks (sometimes it's hard to do.) I just finished my latest project, and very expensive one. My 06 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.9 24 valve Cummins diesel, it's not your typical truck when you think of one. I have put over $30,000 into this truck, and reached my goal of 1000hp, the dyno results said 1003 horsepower/1949 ft/lbs of torque. I'm running a full billet transmission to hold all this, and the stock dana 80 rear and dana 60 front, along with the stock 3.73 gears, but a full spool in the rear and a detroit air locker in the front. I have done many full pulls in the truck, along with many runs down the drag strip, 10.02 being my fastest, I just cant keep all 4 tires from spinning till the 60 ft mark for some reason :S. If anyone cares to know I'm running a piggy-back turbo setup which is a smaller turbo that powers a large turbo, along with the whole fuel system gone through (injectors, lift pump, fuel pump, lines, etc.) I have stacked chips, and to top it all off a nitrous injection system (not a full shot of nitrous, nitrous mixed in with diesel fuel :) ). for looks I have a 4 inch lift to fit my 35 inch tires. That's about all I can think of right now, I'm very tired. Heres some pics:
