I agree with you I am sick of jagex releasing so many new items without any alternatives to the same old boring equipment you already have.

I had an idea that I posted on the offical forums ages ago that you could customize the shape of your armour. At some point im going to make some pictures and post them in the suggestions forum here.

In short since this isnt really the place for it. The sets of armour that are bassically just colour swaps of each other can be customized with about 10 different options just the same as you would customize your character. the item would be the same in every players inventory and trade but appear different on whoever wore it.

I agree, there's too much of the same thing. It's even worse in F2P, where EVERYONE wears rune it seems. I'd like to see some way of color-changing armour or something. Sort of like the painting of helmets or shields in a Player-Owned House, but tradeable.

The best way to solve the lack of variety in the game, I think, is to make gear that is specificically designed for a certain task and is not so powerful that it overshadows all other gear. For instance, perhaps they could release Zaros platebody which would give a 10% bonus to accuracy. However, this should not be too overpowered or the lack of variety problem would not be solved at all; people would simply wear Zaros platebody instead of bandos. No, Jagex needs to consider the bonuses they give new gear carefully and make sure that they are not too powerful so everyone rushes to get one as soon as possible and forget about everything else. In the example of the the Zaros platebody, the 10% accuracy bonus could be compensated for by lowering the strength bonus. This way, there will not be an obvious best gear for people to wear and it will give people a choice of what they prefer: attack or strength.

If we look at the small things that do have a lot of variety in the game, we can see that those are the ones that are not more powerful than each other but are for different purposes. A very good example of this is barrows armour. Dharok's set is not necessarily more powerful than Verac's set but some people choose to wear Verac and others Dharok depending on what they are hoping to achieve. Runescape needs more gear such as Barrows; not stronger and overpowered armour and weapons which simply result in people buying the stronger one and forgetting about the old ones. Variety is definitely a problem in Runescape and I believe that that the best way to fix it is to stop introducing stronger gear but different gear that is specific to a certain task.

Only problem with this- If we add some kind of weapon-enhancement function, kinda like 'use object on this weapon it does (x) effect', everyone will go 'LOL UR COPPYIN WOW ROFL'

Though I agree that items are a bit bland, especially since we stop hitting (viable) options at merely 75, but... I dunno, we've kinda hit the limit, adding anything more powerful will cause the powercreep pile to tumble...

Just deal with the fact you may not be normal, and enjoy yourself. Only got one life to live, might as well do it your way.

The only problem I see with adding in a certain new item that is decently strong, and tradeable, is that people will always clamor to the new item, whether it be good or not, and the price will shoot through the ceiling. A perfect example of such is the dragon pickaxe; it's not too much better than the rune pickaxe or the inferno adze, but people clamored to get it, and it raised to about 15M within weeks. I do agree that something should be added in to liven up the basics of the armor nowadays, but it's going to be more of a variation on what we have now, that is going to end up making the difference more than anything else. Not to mention that this update is going to call for a complete overhaul of all the items in the game, so I wouldn't say something like this WOULD happen anytime in the future.

You felt as if you'd just woke up
And you said "this is the first day of my life
I'm glad I didn't die before I met you
But now I don't care I could go anywhere with you
And I'd probably be happy"

I think RuneScape's weapons and armors should remain as it is.

One of the strong points of RuneScape is the simplicity of playing the game.
  • RuneScape
    • Attack
    • Strength
    • Defense
    • Magic
    • Range
    • Hitpoints

Doesn't get too in-depth, and thus much easier for people to get used to. Thinking the target audience for this game is for children, simplicity = money.

Since all the weapons and armor have the exact same stats, no variation, there is no fear that you are buying the worst gear for your level. (unless you buy the wrong metal class)

  • World of Warcraft
    • Health
    • Energy
    • Mana
    • Strength
    • Agility
    • Intellect
    • Spirit
    • Armor
    • Armor Rating
    • Critical Strike Rating
    • Expertise
    • Dodge
    • Parry
    • Block
    • Talents
    • More, but I can't think of all of them at the moment.

On top of these stats, all armor is centered around classes. Therefore, if you buy an armor that was built for warriors while you are a mage, you will be severely disappointed in your lack of improvement.

My opinion - RuneScape's simplicity, not lack of items, is keeping the players hooked. Sure, having more stats will make the game more in-depth and it's not impossible to learn everything, but if you work on a character for the same amount of time, would you choose to continue to play a game which you understand completely, or a game where you still need lots more information to determine what kind of gear you need to buy?
