First off, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, so if a mod would be so kind as to move it to the correct forum, if indeed I made a mistake by posting it here.

In RuneScape, especially in PvP, the phrase "Good Fight" or "gf" is thrown around alot. I see it all the time, when people get rushed, when people get Pjed, even when people get pjed and barely lose any healt, people still say "GF". I used to believe "good fight" was a way of saying you enjoyed the fight, and that the fight was clean and fair for everyone involved, but the context of the phrase in the modern Runescape seems to suggest otherwise.

So, my question is, what does the phrase "Good fight" truly mean in Runescape?

Mostly just a way of saying "I win you loose" anymore tbh..it used to be used as a respectful term. Once again...this just shows how far the community has went down.

Usually when player A rush player B and player B says good fight, it's just sarcasm to show how lame player A actually is.

I find that it's generally used sarcastically. Many of my friends have actually embedded it into their DAILY vocabulary.

Well you have a good point in asking that. I think that there are two different ways of interpreting that.

1. haha you got owned, good fight.
2. Good fight, respect, well fought ,etc.

The first one has a sarcastic tone to it while the second one has the true meaning.

There was an older thread about this, not sure what happened to it.

Basically, some people say GF because they are arrogant, while others honestly say it by means of respect.

More and more these days however, people are just arrogant.

On a rare occasion I go PKing with a few friends (once a year?) We say "GF" all the time when we get owned, and so do people when they own us. It adds a bit of much needed friendliness in the game :$

Most often it is used now adays sarcastically and is being mean. There are still people that use it though and actually mean that it was a good fight. I know some clans still say gf at the end of a war without a sarcastic tone like my clan for instance.

The phrase itself came when RS2 was released, when you killed someone he "die" animation took 2-3 seconds so both had enough time to say good fight, back in Classic you just died so thats where the original "Bye" or "Cya" came from, wich now has died out and gotten replaced with "Gf" or "Gg".

So initially I guess it was said because it actually was a good fight.

My few cents...
Starter off the term "Pixel" Sigs. Y0ur M0ther - 60 attack 99 Strength 45 Defence.

Personally I use it for both aspects, but yeah, people pretty much hit the point.

Hey, I just use it as it's meant to be used. If you pushed me hard and well, I will give recognition to your efforts and indeed "gf" you. But usually I spell it out in full, just to make sure my opponent doesn't think I'm being a smart-arse who just got his ego punctured. Likewise, I always assume the other guy is as sincere in return when I get the odd K.O. in. To be honest, I haven't actually bumped into anyone who has ever implied thorough bitterness through those two letters. If I get hate, I get it in my face without any cherries on top. Maybe I'm just bad at identifying ingame sarcasm, but yeah - no real issues here.

I use it as a way to express myself when I see someone get completely owned, whether it be someone getting lured for full 3rd age and a blue party hat (there is a video of that floating around) or someone dragon clawing someone else and dealing 10 damage. It is just another form of "lol", just changed to fit the occasion.

It depends on how contextualized it is I guess, the definition is pretty much ambigius and dependant on the situation. Example:

"Lmfao gf whip gf claws" - Trying to take the piss out of something
"GF" (after a deathmatch) - Showing some sort of respect

I normally say gf in clan fights normally when the other person puts a lot of effort into tanking or something, and actually lasting for a while, or during PvP, if I feel it was a clean fight, I use the term gf.
